I'm a Junior and I'm wondering what my chances are for getting into UC Berkeley.

Sophomore S1: 4.0
Sophomore S2: 4.0
Took 1 Community College class and 1 ROP Class Sophomore year
Junior S1:4.75
Junior S2:? (Probably 4.75)

Rest of the years don't matter.

SAT: ?? (Assume I get 2000-2100)

Extracurriculars and other factors (by senior year): 5 Years in MUN with many awards (Similar to Debate team), 3 Years of ASB (Class President Junior Year), Chinese Academy for 10 years

Interned at Qualcomm for half a year, Volunteered at Library for 50+ hours, Working at family restaurant for 4 years

Low income, divorced parents, first generation to go to college, Asian

Also: how important are your SAT Subject test scores? If I'm not likely to go into UC Berkeley can you tell me of any schools I should apply for (preferably more than 2 hours driving distance from San Diego lol)

Sorry, the edit button doesn't seem to be working for me. I wanted to add that the reason I specifically posted about UC Berkeley is because it is my "reach school", I do not know what my safeties are yet but hopefully people will help me on that part. I also have more stuff to add, but I just can't think of it on the top of my head, I'll update later

well SAT's are very important... for UC Berkeley.. you are looking at roughly the 2100 - 2200 range... SAT II's are similarly impt.. anything 750+ is considered really good...

In terms of UC Berkeley accepted applicants, your EC's are considered above average. I can't say they are stellar because they lack an abundance leadership positions. (ASB pres is great!) You've got the awards...

Your family and environment background will help you.

I think if you have the SAT scores of (2100 - 2200), SAT II Subject Tests 750+ (just take SAT II MathIIC + something else (chinese is easy))... some awesome essays, and a few more officer positions... I think UC berkeley would be a possible match for you...

I don't think I can get any more club leadership positions because if I join now if would be considered padding because I'm already almost a senior and if I join anything now it wouldn't really help.

Also I don't think I'll be able to get 750+ on any SAT II. I'm not that smart of a person and I'm kind of lazy. I think I'll get high/mid 600's and the SAT II's Im taking are Math, US History, and Bio. My chinese is horrible so that's not an option (in 10 years of academy my vocabulary is equivalent to a 2nd grader in China)

In state. I think my final scores can be 2100 and mid 600's on my three SAT II'S.

As for my course-load I'm not sure how to answer this. I go to a charter school, High Tech High in Point Loma. They do not offer AP classes at my school, but you can choose to have honors classes junior and sophomore year. This is why my Sophomore GPA is 4.0 (weighted and unweighted), and my Junior GPA will most likely be 4.75 (weighted and 4.0 unweighted). My Junior courseload consists of all honors except for 1 class each semester. The class that I did not do honors for first semester was Academic Internship, which is a special thing provided by High Tech High where twice a week you go to corporations for half of the day to intern there, where you do real work amongst real co-workers (unlike usual high school internships). My second semester non-honors class is Principles of Engineering. All my other classes consist of the usual core (English, History, Math, Science).

UC Berkeley seems to be a match with your predicted stats. I would also apply to UCLA and UCSD. Although UCSD is not two hours away from San Diego as it is in San Diego and UCLA is borderline about 2 hours away. I would also recomend UCI/UCSB/UCD, although UCI is not 2 hours away either. Those three schools should be safe matches-safeties for you with your predicted stats. You could also apply to Cal Poly SLO which would be a safe match-safety. USC should be a match-safe match with your predicted stats, and Stanford would be a slight reach or reach. If you are looking at liberal arts colleges, I would recommend the Claremont schools as well which are very competitive to gain admission too (Pomona/Claremont McKenna/Harvey Mudd). This is a pretty complete list of top California Colleges.

Try to bump up those SAT scores. Keep in mind though, you aren't in bad shape now with your current scores. GPA is stellar and your EC's are good.

I'd give you a 70/30 percent accept/decline, 75/25 if you can bring your sat to about 2120+
