UC Berkeley AP credit

I was incredibly lucky to get into Berkeley last night! (Would not have expected that in a million years. I thought I had a better shot at Harvard. Literally.) And I’m pretty sure I’ll be committing there!

I’m really worried about their conditions of admission regarding AP scores. When I was applying in November, I was planning on taking 5 AP exams, but I only ended up registering for 4. I am not taking Spanish Lit because I took Spanish Lang last year so I don’t need the credit, and I just wanted to focus on studying for my other ones (Micro, Macro, Calc AB, ES).

It also says in the FAQ that “Berkeley acknowledges only AP scores that are 3 or higher. APs with scores lower than 3 are not required as a Condition of Admission.” Does this mean that if I don’t submit my Spanish Lit score they will just assume that I got below a 3?

There is a form in my portal to update them with this information, and I’m trying to figure out how likely I am to get bad news if I fill it out. Should I contact an AO instead? Or do nothing?

This has been my dream school since I was 5 and I would literally do anything not to get my offer rescinded-- any insight will be so so appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I can 100 percent guarantee you will not be rescinded if you do not take an AP tests or you fail an AP test or anything else connected with AP testing. You simply will not get credit - obviously.

That’s what I thought, but this one specific message scares me:

I stand by my earlier post. If you want, send a note with the valid reason if why you will not take the Spanish lit exam.

okay. thank you SO much!

Better to update your application and ask any questions about the change now, so that if it is a problem, you know before you have to decide where to matriculate.

@ig364728: I interpret the statement on the provisional admission contract as: If you listed AP scores on your UC application, you are required to submit those official scores however, I would still send admissions an email explaining why you are not taking the AP exam(s) listed for Senior year.
