UC Berkeley Appeal

I applied to UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCSD, UCLA and UCSB. other than UCSB i was rejected by all of them although i was admitted to NYU stern. i am a 4.0 student with a 2200 sat score and plenty of ec's to complement what i think is a good portfolio. last week, motivated by my rejection from uc berkeley i decided to double check my application for any possibe discrepencies that may have caused my rejection from so many UCs. i stumbled upon my SAT scores and noticed that only the november score i had put in myself was there, and that next to the date for the december sat i planned to take it said "error!" in red. also next to the 3 subject tests i put on the app it said "not recieved". i was puzzled by this because i sent my scores to UCLA (this year you only have to send your scores to one UC and they all get them. it says on the UC website) so i checked collegeboard. alas on my send history it showed i had sent evreything as i remembered yet for some reason the UC system didn't get the scores. i recently sent in an appeal to UC berkeley with a letter explaining the situation, a printed version of my score send history from college board, and a screen shot of a receipt i got emailed from collegeboard. what are the odds of success with my appeal? thanks in advance!

I think you have a good chance, because you will have " new /compelling info"
Where did you find the status of your scores?

I think you have a good chance. My younger son has been somewhat of slacker with a GPA of only 3.1 but even though he took the SAT only once in March of his junior year he achieved a 660 in CR and a 720 in Math. He applied as a Physics major to just CSU Sacramento since that is where his brother is and they have always been very close. I was shocked when he was rejected. I looked into it more carefully and found that for some reason they had him listed as an international applicant. We assembled the various documents that show he is a California resident and will be graduating from a Sacramento County high school in a few weeks, went to Sac State and filed an appeal. Within a week they sent him a letter of acceptance.

Winning an appeal against public universities in California is usually hopeless but our case shows that if there is clearly an error in the application materials on which they based their decision and you have documentation to back it up you have an excellent chance of prevailing.

My appeal was denied today, they just posted the results online. Oh well, it was worth a shot, and in an environment that was not so tight for Fall or Spring spots it might have flown. No guts no glory. So it’s off to USC for me. Another great school and great fit for me. Best to all of you Bears, perhaps I’ll go there for grad school :)

I just got denied too. ***. :'(

^ Sorry to hear about the disappointing outcomes.

Good luck to the OP.

what does it mean if my appeal is still under review? i sent it in early april, im not really sure why you guys have heard and i have not

They reviewed mine in one day…

I got a call from Berkeley yesterday at 11 saying they didn’t receive mine in the mail, but they knew I was appealing. They said I could email it and it would be looked at for a decision. Little did I know after emailing it at 5 P.M. last night that I would wake up this morning with an appeal status, which was not there yesterday, and on top of it, a rejected appeal saying appeals are now closed…Life is just great…

Here is what they said:

“After careful re-evaluation of your application, we regret that we are unable to grant your appeal for admission as enrollment spaces for fall are extremely limited. Please note that appeals are now closed and no additional information will be considered. We wish you the best in your future college plans.”

I could gripe about it, but I am going to UCSD. Hopefully I will like it enough not to feel like transferring, for I feel like I am missing out at Berkeley. If I do transfer, maybe I should try MIT or something.

is it a better sign that its still under review? do they do like a rolling admissions type reporting?

Since we don’t know when everyone sent in their appeals, it is likely just based on the order in which they reviewed their appeals
