UC Berkeley Appeal

I got rejected by UC Berkeley. But I did not mention in my application that I have been taking care of my grandma (Alzheimer's Disease) and my grandpa (colon cancer) since November of my junior year. It was really hard for me to study. Is this circumstance strong enough to appeal my admission? Also, when do they begin to read appeals? I know you can submit your appeals, but do the admission officers read it as soon as it comes in? Thank you everybody?

I am sorry to hear about your grandparents health issues. The only people that know if its strong enough to appeal are the adcoms at Cal, but if you don’t appeal they aren’t going to change their minds. So you have little to lose. A big key is to be specific. Try to provide details of how many hours each week you needed to help out, how often you were interrupted during the week to go over to help out, explain where they live so that it seems plausible that you really took part in their care (its less believable if you live in LA and they are in Oakland). And don’t lie or exaggerate; they can check.
