UC Berkeley Application Update help?!

There’s a “Breadth Requirements” (IGETC) section and I’m confused about the foreign language part!! There’s a checkbox for 2/3 years of a foreign language in high school, which I checked, but above that there’s boxes to fill out under the categories of the course/course id/college where you took the course/semester or quarter system/year. Since I completed this in high school I don’t fill out the boxes right??

(What I wrote will make a lot more sense if you’ve actually seen the form online)

The box on the left says “LOTE (Language Other Than English) - HS Course, College Course, AP Exam” so I would just fill in the boxes with the title of the class at your high school, the school you took it at, etc.

^ Yep

@cupoft @luckie1367 I don’t think that’s the case, because the only place to enter a school is under the category listed as “College/University”… there’s no category to enter a high school; on top of that I’ve heard multiple times that colleges don’t see your high school grades at all, and if you satisfied the foreign language part of IGETC in high school then you give your HS transcripts to your CC (which I did already) and they relay the message to the UC’s that your foreign language requirement is satisfied, without them ever seeing your grades.

Why don’t you call the number at the bottom then?

@luckie1367 I called it literally 10 times between 1:00 and 4:00 and I kept getting the automated response saying to call back at 1:00 when the admissions office opens…I even called the general UC Berkeley phone number and was told that the only number they have to transfer me to admissions is the same number at the bottom, and to try back tomorrow. Lol.

I’m sur it will be busy for the first couple of days the update is open. Please let us know what you find out!

Fashodoe @luckie1367 I’ll keep yall posted

Yeah, it’s probably best to call them tomorrow if possible. I’ll try to do the same as well. Good luck! Hopefully you have a better chance of catching them tomorrow.

Please let us know what they say!

Really curious about this as well. Keep us posted!

I would think since you listed your high school in the application, you only need to say completed in high school (as you have checked). You will need to send the transcript to them if accepted. I’m not sure the CCC can do it. I believe you must request all transcripts yourself and they are sent directly to the UC from the officiating institution. (Same with College Board and exam credit. The CCC may have it on record, but you must get records sent from the CollegeBoard.) So my instinct is they will want the official transcript via the high school. Things like that are exceptions to the no hs records needed.

You might feel better checking to verify. No need to rush the TAU.

I believe this should give clarity:

QUOTE:

"If the language other than English requirement is waived for a high school senior because they satisfied it with the SAT Subject Test, an AP exam or formal schooling in a foreign language in another country, how should the student indicate that on their application?

If the student doesn’t enter coursework showing that they have fulfilled the “a-g” requirements, they may receive an error message. If that happens, they should check the box that indicates they are aware of the possible deficiency (even though it is not a subject deficiency). In the additional comments box in the Academic History section, they should report that they have fulfilled the language other than English requirement through an alternative method. When UC evaluators see the student’s test scores or that the student was taught in a language other than English, they will note that the requirement has been met."

@briank82‌ and @MikeSauce‌ this probably will not interest you but am passing along as it is a UCB webinar for veterans and business. It came in through my alumni email today. If you click on it it may say ticket sales have ended, but there’s some kind of glitch. All the webinars say that. They’re free.
