berkeley sent me an email asking for me to answer an additional questionnaire about myself and asking for a teacher rec. the questions are along the lines of how someone has coped with a "disability" because i indicated that i suffered from depression for 2 years in freshman/sophomore year. i know other people got the email because of other medical conditions but i was just wondering if my depression answer is considered valid enough for them to evaluate me on it differently.

just wondering- when did you receive this email?

If they believe that the depression caused your grades and level of class rigor to be lower, but that you have worked out how to cope and are doing better now, they might very well evaluate you differently. Someone who doesn’t care and doesn’t try to do well would not be of interest to the university, but someone who is capable, will work hard and take advantage of what the campus has to provide is the kind of student they want. If they believe you might fit that second description, even though your grades in early high school don’t fully reflect your potential due to depression, it would certainly be to your advantage.
