UC Berkeley Borderline Supplemental Questionnaire

Hello Forum,

So recently my step-brother received an e-mail from UC Davis (back in Jan) and UC Berkeley (yesterday) that had a supplemental questionnaire attachment to it along with request for letter of rec and 7th semester grades. He asked me about it and having no clue as well, I’ve came on here to hopefully get an answer.

I’ve done some quick googling about this, (correct me if I’m wrong), it’s for after most of decision making for acceptances and rejections are done and a small percentage of applicants that are on the edge. (At least for the borderline supplementary…?)

My step-brother is a pretty good student, Rank is around 25~35/650

He had a 9-11 GPA of 3.8~3.9 weighed when applied, but a SAT score of 1580 and ACT score of 22/23 (he might have not reported that one.)

Now when he applied for Davis and Berkeley he had some hopes for Davis and knew that Berkeley would have to be a miracle.

Now that he’s receiving additional supplementary from Davis and Berkeley, does that mean he is a possible candidate to be accepted to Davis and Berkeley, since he was sorted to the “Maybe, but need additional information” and not straight up “Reject”

Or am I just getting the wrong ideas here? I don’t want to give him a wrong answer that could excite/disappoint him.

You should be excited for him because Berkeley probably sees something in your step-brother that would be a great attribute to the campus. Make sure he turns it in on time and kicks butt on the supplement and gets awesome recommendations.
Disclaimer: I am an applicant myself.
However, many posts here on CC seem to support the idea, especially after hearing many stories of people getting the supplement and getting into or being rejected from Berkeley because they did or did not do the supplement respectively. Berkeley’s giving your brother a chance prove himself. Why not seize the opportunity?

I also made a CC post about this… I got one too. So who knows.

I am actually a current student who previously got accepted with borderline supplement  Don’t worry and tell your brother to put all his heart into the supplements which I’m sure he will  I would say that the supplement is a way for the applicant to shine and was sent to him since the universities probably saw something interesting him that will be a great contribution to the campus. So, don’t worry and definitely fill out the supplement
