I am a senior in high school in the middle of the college application process. I have a 3.78 uw gpa, 4.15 weighted. My SAT score is a 1420. I dis swim team for 3 years, tennis for 4, and volunteer at my local animal shelter. I am involved with NHS, and assist with various events at my school. Do I have a chance of getting into UC Berkeley or should I not even bother in applying? I have safety schools, and I want to know is UC Berkeley is a good reach school or if it is impossible for me to get in. TIA!
Is your 4.15 GPA weighted, your UC Capped weighted GPA? Also what is your fully weighted UC GPA?

Intended major? HS course rigor?
UCB should be considered a Reach school for all applicants.
Using the calculator from @Gumbymom , my Unweighted GPA is 3.84, my weighted is a 4.37, and my weighted and capped is a 4.05. Also I should note I am not a resident of California, and in high school, I have taken 3-4 honors/ap courses each year (out of 7)
And my intended major is Media Studies.
As an OOS applicant, only AP/IB courses count for the extra honors points. Being OOS, the threshold is a bit higher in GPA and test scores.
You do know that you are not a direct admit into Media studies and you have to apply after taking the required pre-req courses? Also since you are OOS, your family can afford UCB at $65K/year for you to attend? Little to no financial aid for OOS students.
Some statistical data below:
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted) and not major specific:
UCB: 12.6%
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCB: 1360-1540
Like I stated in the above post, consider it a Reach school but apply if it is affordable and one of your top choices.
Best of luck.
@Gumbymom Thanks so much for your input!
It’s not a great chance, maybe 10-20% chance given your grades and test scores, but it’s certainly worth a try. FWIW, my kid got in this year with the same 4.05 weighted capped GPA.
@ProfessorPlum168 Thanks for the info!
