UC Berkeley Chances

Can someone tell me my chances at getting into UC Berkeley school of Letters and Science?
I really want to go to Berkeley but I know how competitive it is to get in. Assuming i write good essays, how are my chances? From what I've seen, they don't seem too good (which makes me kind of sad).

Cum GPA = 3.47 (4.23 weighted)
Freshman gpa = 3.29
Sophomore gpa = 3.43
Junior GPA = 3.69
Freshman year really killed my gpa... i would have a 4.5 weighted if it wasn't for the massive amount of Bs i got that year. (Breakdown below)

ACT: 35 (retaking to try and get a 36)

AP Physics C: 5 on both
AP Biology: 5
AP Calc BC: 5
AP Spanish Lang: 4

Senior year APs: AP CompSci, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry

EC's:
Researching at Princeton University
Science Olympiad state champion
Part of the Chess team (First in states Nov '11)
Part of Ultimate frisbee team (5th in eastern division, 2nd in states)
Volunteered for many Indian Music organizations over the summer
President of the Physics Olympiad Team (A study team where we prepare for Physics Olympiad Exams)
Taken EECS course at MITx and got an A (Can be verified w/certificate)
Taking a few Berkeleyx courses this fall

Play Indian drums and have performed many concerts and won several prizes

Freshman year: (Geometry Hns taken over the summer:A)
Bio Hns:B

Sophomore year: (Precalc Hns taken over summer:A)

AP Biology: A
AP Spanish: B
English Hns: B

Bump - please help :)

Umm I don’t think your chances are too bad. And about a the gpa- UC’s only count sophomore and junior year so don’t worry about freshman year.

I heard about that but there was some other post on CC that said UCB does look at freshman year GPA

You don’t really have much of a chance. Any UCB student would agree with me.

Berkeley doesn’t look at freshman year.

Thats great to hear. So if berkeley does not look at freshman year, my UW gpa would become a 3.56 and weighted would be a 4.5. How are my chances with that gpa? the UW is still on the low side in my opinion but does Berkeley look at UW or weighted more?

i think they look at UC GPA, which is where they give one extra point for APs and if you’re a CA resident, honors. Keep in mind they like to see A’s in tough classes.

Can someone help me calculate my UC gpa with the grades in my post? I tried finding an explicit list of the “a-g” courses but couldn’t find one. Please help.

I think it’s about a 4.27

Are you sure? That seems really high for my grades. Im OOS so i believe only the APs count as honors. I thought my UC gpa was a 3.84 (thats what somebody else told me) which is on the really really really low side for UCB. Can someone confirm whether my gpa is a 3.84 or 4.27? And if it is a 3.84, do you think i have any chance of getting in?

Oh btw do any of you think that my researching at princeton will help?

Your UC GPA is 3.84. That is including your Honors Pre-Calc & AP Calc AB grades, an extra point for the 4 AP’s you got A’s in, and the AP you got a B in was counted as a B in a normal class (UC GPA has a maximum of 8 weighted semesters allowed between 10-11th).

Your UC GPA is rather low but I think that your ACT score and EC’s will help you out a lot. If your GPA was higher I’d say you’d be a high match but because it’s below average & youre out of state, I’d say a low reach.
