I just submitted my uc freshman apps yesterday, and now i'm really starting to doubt whether i'll get in or not. I have a 3.8 gpa, weighted. My SAT score isn't too great either, as it's an 1830. Although my academics suck, my extracurricular's are superb. (not trying to sound cocky here...) I organize visits to homeless shelters, i started a food pantry at my temple, I have over 300 hours at a hospital, i interned at kaiser over the summer, im the lead vocalist of my singing group, i teach kirtan (music) to kids, im a peer college counselor at my school, im in the medical magnet program (although not trying to pursue the medical field any longer), im captain of my dance team, etc etc. I do A LOT of volunteer work, and i never did it because i thought it would help me to get into college. I literally do everything from the bottom of my heart, and it's something i completely enjoy doing. I honestly wish I could more though. for my essays, i got the help of 3 berkeley students, and 1 ucla student, and i feel extremely confident about them. both of my essay topics were unique, and they might actually give me a chance of getting in. but my ABSOLUTE MAIN CONCERN is the academia....
in your opinion, do you think i could get in?
what other schools do you think i have a chance at?
id really appreciate honest answers, and i hope all of you enjoy your day :)

You have a chance although your gpa and scores are kind of low. You have great Ecs and that will help. If your essays are really good and you took a lot of ap and honors classes you probably have a 30% chance. It is a reach though.

I think it’s a reach, mainly due to your SAT. Your GPA is okay for Berkeley, and your ECs are great.

UCB: reach

^The above posts are kind of frightening.

I actually believe that if, and only if, you communicated your love for your ECs extremely well through your essays, you have a good chance of getting into Berkeley (assuming Letters & sciences).

I won’t give percentages because those are hard numbers that no one is sure of anyway.

I definitely tried to communicate my passions through the essays, so my chance rests on those. although it doesn’t really matter for a freshman, i’m going in as a women studies major, and i do try to convey my love for this along with my ec’s through my writing.

akpl4485: thank you for your response. during high school, a majority of my classes were AP and Honors. I stated in the “additional comments” under academics that although i started off very poorly, as i increased the rigor in my curriculum, i began to improve, thus showing that challenges stimulate my ability to succeed.
my grades now pretty much consist of A’s and B’s, a majority of them being the former. is there any way that they would ask me for my first semester transcript?

UCB is a reach because your GPA and test score, but you have a chance, although slight.
