<p>i want to go apply to Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. they are #3 undergrad business school according to latest rankings. what do you think my chances are? some things won't make sense, like the bad class rank but good SAT scores. the explanation is that i didn't try freshman year (luckily berkeley doesn't look at freshman grades, although it does reflect my class rank) and i've been playing catchup since then, and my school is riduculously competitive. anyways, now that i've gotten that little bit out of the way, here's my resume:</p>

Welch Summer Scholar Program - i applied and got addmitted. essentially, i went to a university for 5 weeks and did chemistry research with proffessors and grad students, and then wrote a miniature discertation (~10 pages) over my expirements, made a poster, and gave a powerpoint presentation to a body of ~20 proffessors.</p>

<p>You have a reasonable shot -- good scores, good ECs, etc. However, the GPA is weak. It'd be weak even in-state. For that reason, I'd say Berkeley's a reach (in large part because Berkeley OOS is a crapshoot). The context of your school will be taken into account, though. Make your essays really great and you just might get in.</p>

<p>Also, you don't apply directly to Haas -- you apply to the university (probably L&S or something), and later on you apply to Haas when you declare the major.</p>

<p>Not really many things you can do at this point. SATs are somewhat below average for out of state, but you seem more equipped to get in than a lot of your competition. Also, like kyledavid said, its not getting into the premajor thats hard, its getting admitted properly that is. You'll find that a lot of people will drop out because of the intense competition between students. If you think you're not strong enough to compete against other people, some probably academically superior than you, for the few As that the class awards, then it might not be in your best interest to apply to Berkeley. Maybe instead you could apply for a business school that will accept you directly into the major.</p>

<p>if our school ranked based off of junior year alone, i'd be in the top 10 people. the problem is, i didn't really do anything freshman year, and while i did start to play catchup sophomore year, i should have done more, so junior year i really worked my ass off. considering that i took 7 ap classes and 1 honors course junior year, a 5.45 acadamic average (6.0 is a 100 in an AP class, 5.45 would be a 94.5 average in AP classes) is really really good.</p>

<p>if you think my chances at berkeley are good, what other schools with good undergrad business programs would you recomend (besides University of texas) that you think i have a good chance of getting into</p>

<p>Wow, who cares if Haas is ranked #3 in the nation? You should care a lot more about the school itself. I can tell you right now that the school is not for everyone. You probably have a good chance, but that's irrelevant if the school isn't a good fit for you.</p>

<p>Also, UCs do not take into consideration senior year grades.</p>

<p>Uh, yes they do. They don't request a midyear report for admission, but they do look at your senior grades later on, and if they are not up to par, they can and will rescind your admission.</p>

<p>There's a few other things you need to know about Haas.</p>

<p>(1) You don't apply to Haas until your sophomore year at UC Berkeley for admittance during your junior year.</p>

<p>(2) Only about 62% of UC Berkeley students who applied were accepted to Haas last year--and these students had average GPAs of 3.6+.</p>

<p>(3) Of those who didn't go to UC Berkeley already who applied to Haas, only about 37 students were accepted--and the average GPA of these people was 3.91 or so. </p>

<p>(4) Of non-UC Berkeley students who were accepted to Haas, almost none were accepted from out-of-state (so getting into UC Berkeley to get into Haas is paramount if you are from Texas)</p>

<p>thanks for the info calcruzer. i'll make sure to just apply via the generic UC application on berkeley's website and list business as my major, then apply to Haas sophomore year.</p>

<p>I don't think business would be your major -- pre-business, perhaps, or something to that effect.</p>
