Hey,
I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to change your proposed major once accepted to Berkeley? I was accepted for spring and applied as a Film Theory major because that's what I was pursuing at my previous four-year college. However, I want to change my major to either Peace and Conflict Studies or English, possibly double majoring. All three departments are within the College of Letters and Sciences, but I know the English major is highly impacted. I read that it's rather difficult to change..does anyone have any insight?

Well I applied for Peace and Conflict Studies, but want to switch into pure Political Science.
I emailed the Poli Sci advisors and they said that you just have to let them know you intend on switching at CalSO.

They will put you with that group, and if you have satisfactory pre-reqs and such, you can declare your major right then and there.

hope this helps.

This has been discussed on here a lot, but to tell you it is VERY easy to change majors once you get admitted to CAL. You are not even in a major at CAL until you declare (most do this at CALSO but it is not necessary). If you want to change your major to one that is impacted you should make sure you have already completed all of the pre-reqs for that major because as a transfer student you only have your first semester to declare a capped major or else you will not be admitted (or after you exceed 60 units). Basically what I am saying is that it is really easy to switch majors when you come to CAL, if you are interested you just need to go to the major advisor to the major you are interested in at CALSO and they will help you out…hope that helped.

^ Wait. So if I’ll have more than 60 units but am missing two English prereqs (English is impacted, by the way), am I screwed? Why the hell would they admit me if I couldn’t get into my major?

what if someone is missing one prereq, and intends to take it in the summer? My friend is thinking of doing this.

i’m missing two prereqs. plan on taking one in summer. i wouldnt mind graduating in 2 1/2 years instead of 2 if it meant i can get the major i reallly want. i’m going to double major. does anyone know if i can just finish my prereqs (for new wanted major) and take some of the upper div. then declare the second major? (instead of declaring first semester of junior year) would that be ok?

Yes it is. So why did you bring this and the other UC Berkeley topic, both of which are years old, back to the front?
