I can’t figure it out either, I can only find a UC capped GPA calculator.
I got a LOR request a few days after I submitted in mid-November. Though the LATimes article says that it’s sent to students “between certain acceptance or rejection”, I don’t even understand what that means. My friends and I thought that it was for borderline students, but my GPA is reasonably high. According to my GC, only five people have asked him so far. Even accounting for 1. students that haven’t asked yet and 2. students that will ask someone else, that’s a really low number. If it matters, two of those students had GPAs in the top 5 of our class of 625.
WHAT DOES THE LOR REQUEST FROM UCB INDICATE? Do you guys think it’s a good, bad, or completely random sign?
I just got a LOR request after submitting it 3 hours before it was due.
Applied to EECS as an OOS female
Average stats, a lot of ECs, and good essays
Just got a request for LORs as well and I applied the 28th or 29th (I truly cannot remember- whatever last Saturday was). No actual idea what they mean. I would say I’m a solid student, but because I’m from the east coast, my parents weren’t too keen on allowing me to apply so my essays aren’t really fantastic. I can’t imagine these letter requests being randomized though- it sounds like more work for admissions, which nobody has time for. I think whoever they’re asking was just an applicant who isn’t an automatic reject (like asking for first quarter grades.) This isn’t to say that if you weren’t asked, they aren’t considering you. I’m just saying that if they did it can’t be an awful sign. I wouldn’t let it worry anyone too much. I’m sure you guys are all the best of students who will end up somewhere wonderful. Good luck to all!
They actually want to have LOR for everyone next year, so I’m not sure about the “more work for admissions” part.
I’ve heard that it’s good to have gotten a LOR request.
@aperollll I’ve tried that but it gives capped UC GPA instead of uncapped.
I just got the request and I submitted mid day on the 30th. Don’t worry if you don’t receive one!
Just a question regarding sending SAT scores - if I sent mine to Berkeley as a free score report in May, is there any way I can confirm that they received it and have linked it to my UC app?
Go to UC application and click test scores. You’ll see when they received it.
do you mean the common UC applicaton account that we used to submit the application?
has anyone applying to CED gotten a LOR request? I think my essays were very good and showed interest my major which I heard matters for CED, probably above average stats and ECs but OOS.
^lol I actually just got an LOR request so if any of you CED people were wondering, some are.
I applied to CLS land got the LOR today. I’m pretty sure it’s a good thing to get them, but seeing that so many people seem to have gotten the request as well, I don’t think it’s a major indicator
If I sent in a crappy SAT 2 score, but didn’t include it in my app, would they still consider it?

can anyone give me advice on this? I emailed them yesterday, waiting for a reply
@ayylmao1 I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to mark them as honors
Me and my friend got a request for lors. Both 4.0 gpa unweighted. I have 1800s sat she’s in the 1900s. These stats are completely different than everyone I’ve seen that also got a request. Everyone’s so much better. Idg what the email means.
Hey! I spent about an hour reading through this whole thread and I really have no clue how they’re choosing us LOR people.
I applied 2 hours before app closed (I’m in Miami, it was technically Dec 1 for me, since it closed in PST time lol)
-I haven’t calculated my UC GPA but my unweighted out of 4.0 is 3.78, and weighted out of 6.0 is 4.87
-740 SAT II Chem
-30 highest single sitting ACT; 31 composite but I know they don’t superstore
-EC’s include trips with Habitat for Humanity, president of National Art Honor Society, collaborated with Whole Foods on a project to President of a writing club I founded freshman year, secretary of FBLA, raise money for homeless (discussed this in my personal statement); Service Project Coordinator for National Honor Society, member in all of these: national social studies honor society, national math honor society, FEA, key club, environmental club, first priority (religious club), advanced women’s choir, varsity volleyball, tutored for free at local middle school, volunteered at special olympic local event, and worked at Chipotle for about 6 months.
My scores are not competitive at all but I’ve pretty much given my life to community service and leadership LOL. It seems like a lot but these we’re all simultaneous, picked up and dropped these throughout high school. Essays focused on EC’s and comm. service. I got my email requested LOR 6 days after APP submitted. I honestly submitted BERKLEY because I had an extra fee waiver, I didn’t really see myself getting in
applying to College of Chemsitry, have taken 5 APs so far and am taking 4 this year. A/B in all APs other human geo freshman year. Never failed an exam. I’m also African- American but I know they don’t consider that either. So, shrug
Oh and also idk which EC’s I chose, I know they didn’t let u put more than 5 from what I remember. Which did u guys pick to note?
