I just received an email from Berkeley saying that they have already reviewed my application and would like me to send two letters of recommendation. Is that a good sign? Did anyone else get that email yet? I submitted my app nov 5th. (However the link to login to submit the letters does not work! I just sent them am email asking for a new link…)
That is super fast. When did you submit your application? It means you are a borderline candidate, I believe.
Hmmm. I Could be borderline, but I do have 4.5 uc gpa, very high test scores, and really strong ECs. I also heard they are just verifying the apps in their “probably admit” pile. This is the first year they are doing this, so it’s anyone’s guess!
You are a very strong candidate. I know that EECS is very competitive. Some SAT 2400 kids got rejected last year. It is a first year, so nobody can tell what it means. Good luck.
If I plan to send my ACT scores only and subject tests, do I have to send in all my scores from SAT Reasoning test and ACT?
Thanks! I am not an EECS applicant, I’m in social sciences. That’s easier to Get into than any of the engineering majors. I know I am at the top of all of their gpa (4.0 unweighted) and test score stats, but they get a a lot of applicants with great numbers. I guess being asked to send in letters has to be a good sign, since they wouldn’t ask me to send more stuff If I was already in the “reject” pile!! So I guess a “Maybe” is way better than a “no!”… Fingers crossed!
@Colleges9153, my son received that email today too. He too is interested in social sciences, and also, like you, has a very strong GPA, test scores, ECs, etc. I think that like you said it’s a sign that at least for now you’re both not in the “rejected” pile. Btw, do you live in CA? We do not. Wondering if maybe that might have something to do with it.
We are in California. Did the link in your email work? Mine said “click here” but there was no link! I do have my logon and password but do you know the url of the page to log in? Is it the generic uc Berkeley applicant page?
@Colleges9153, yes, the link worked. Once we clicked, we created a user name and password.
Try going to https://apply.berkeley.edu/apply/ref
Once logged in, it takes you to a “recommendation page” where the only option is to “add recommender.”
I was thinking maybe my son received this email because we’re out of state, but since you’re in CA, I guess that’s not it. Just curious, what sort of test scores do you have?
It worked! Thanks! Test scores 33 act (34 super score, 35 in math and science), 800 sat math2, 770 history, lots of ap classes, lots of ECs… I want to believe asking for letters is a good sign!
@Colleges9153 @MamaBear555 What great news for you both! I think that’s a good sign!
No emails from Berkeley yet…
@Colleges9153 sounds like you have an incredibly strong application. I’m sure you’ll have lots of great options. @Sunbeams, thanks. I read somewhere that they’ll be sending these emails out through mid December…Good luck with your apps!
Hey everyone! UCB has been one of my dream school since quite some time now Good luck to everyone!
How are you guys getting that e-mail already despite them saying that they don’t start looking at applications until after the Nov. 30th deadline? I was told my admissions officers they don’t look at apps until then. Anyway, the e-mail normally means you’re a borderline candidate, so it means there’s hope.
The website makes it seem like it’s completely random… Maybe they’re just probing around? But it doesn’t make sense for Berkeley (obviously strapped for admissions resources) to do that. They have enough to read.
What are your extracurriculars, GPA, test scores, etc.?
i got a email asking for the letters. I have 2400 SAT superscored, 36 ACT, 10 AP’s all 5’s, 7 on AIME, USNCO qualifier so I hope I’m not borderline lol. I’m not from California though so I guess that decreases my chances a lot.
I got a request for a letter of recommendation today. Test scores 35 ACT (35 E, 34 M, 35 R, 35 S), 800 SAT Math 2, 770 Chem, 750 Bio, 750 physics, lots of AP classes. Hopefully this request is a good sign…
@letmethink - Are you OOS?
It seems that only high stats applicants got requests for LOR, not a borderline as it was in the news before. Anyone with lower stats got request for LOR?
