UC Berkeley - Class of 2020 Waitlist

@PentaDad Thanks for sharing that article. The writer does not state the additional 750 students have already been accepted. What I think it means is Cal has set out for a larger freshmen class, and they will do so by BOTH accepting more students (by the March 24th decision day) AND having a larger waitlist to fill in the gap. This seems to be supported by Post 217 which states Cal offered waitlist to 7000 applicants, twice last year’s figures. Also, if you read the Clarification under the article, it states ALL freshmen will still be offered on-campus housing. It’s probably the upper classmen and transfers who will feel the housing pinch.

In 2015, 12,048 were accepted. This year, 12,226.

That’s worrying…Since the 12 048 includes those that may be accepted from the waitlist. And the 12 226 doesn’t.

Well in this article it says 13,321 students were offered admission last year : http://news.berkeley.edu/2015/07/02/berkeley-admits-more-than-13000-prospective-freshmen/

So the the 12,048 number is not including waitlisted students.

aayyyyyyyyyy

@sophiesum The 12,048 figure for admits last year INCLUDES waitlist applicants who were ultimate admitted. Page 5 of that Common Data Set states “Admitted applicants should include wait-listed students who were subsequently offered admission.”

I don’t think we’re comparing apples to oranges when comparing the Common Data Set’s 12,048 (includes waitlist admits) to the recent article’s 12,226 which does NOT include waitlist admits as that’s unknown til June 1.

Post 216 links to an article stating that Cal is set out for a Fall 2016 freshman class that will be larger by 750 students. That’s good news for your admissions chances!

According to this article, 13,321 students were admitted. The difference between 12,048 and 13,321 is
1273 students which is roughly the size of the admitted wait list (1340)

@1katniss Gotcha. Makes sense. I guess the key word is" should" in “Admitted applicants SHOULD include wait-listed students who were subsequently offered admission”.

has anyone received any sort of confirmation that the opt-in was successful? It’s not showing up on the MAP@Berkeley and I’m a bit paranoid…

@sydward Do you have a little green check mark by your opt-in option?

@badhorse yes! Ok that makes sense then. I was just freaked out because when I clicked “display” it said “Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.”. But the check mark must mean it’s submitted. Pheeewwwwwww.

i opted in but i don’t think i have a check mark any where on my screen

@imvegetarian2016 right underneath the word “forms” it shows the date you submitted the opt-in stuff and there’s a green check.

@sydward YES I SEE IT FINALLY HHAHAHA THANK YOU SO MUCH I WAS HAVING A PANIC ATTACK

Just got accepted off the waitlist for Civil. This makes my next week much more stressful

Congrats first off all! Are you IS or OOS?

@mattyicecold Wow so fast!! Congrats!!! What are your stats? Are u a California resident or international student?

@mattyicecold you are clearly lying. They still dont know how many people will deposit. They would not rush and risk taking someone before may 1st.

@kaanddd Actually it’s possible. I’m not sure about UC Berkeley, but today I got accepted from University of Washington’s waitlist pool (I was quite shocked at the timing, but it’s probably because some people already withdrew their admission).

@kaanddd What possible motivation would I have to lie? You don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to though.
@cc3737 I was actually pretty surprised they took me. 1960 SAT, 28 ACT, 4.13 weighted GPA. I am a California resident. I won’t get my official letter of acceptance until the 29th but the engineering department sent me a preliminary letter to give me a bit of time to think about it.
