Hi,
I have been wait listed at Berkeley as well. I was wondering if I can submit an additional letter of recommendation through the portal?
Thanks.

@Mia1623 There’s no option to submit a LOR. If you want to submit one, I’d call Admissions and ask how/if you can. I suppose you can copy and paste it into the essay section but how would they know it’s a genuine LOR? If the genuineness of a LOR is in question, I’d guess the Admissions Reps will disregard it.
@CalDude2020
Just some quick stats
33 ACT
3.92 UW gpa, 4.3 W gpa
Getting recruited for lacrosse
Instate
What about you?
@kornido Yes that’s a valid point, didn’t think of that. Also, the essay section being only 500 words, it would be difficult to fit in everything.
@TopChed Check my previous thread for my detailed stats. Got into UCLA and UCSD for mech eng, rejected from UCSB and USC lol.
Hi! So I have some questions about being on the waitlist… Some may have been asked before but I am seeking a perhaps more definitive answer…
Since my first semester grades aren’t the hottest, does it look bad not to send them in?
Also, because I am applying for Asian American studies (not one of the more popular majors), does that help me in any way in getting off the waitlist?
If I want to send in an additional letter of recommendation, who should I send it to? Should I just call the admission office and ask? Will they be annoyed by that??
And are the stats for OOS students getting off the waitlist any better than for in state?
I got wait listed for architecture and this is my top school. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for the architecture major or it’s yield? I will be starting an architecture internship as well so I will write about that, but my spring grades are not that great because senioritis. Should I try bringing them up and send them in, or not send them in?
@saucesquash I’m wondering the same thing about recommendations, does anyone have any answers?
As for semester grades, I would definitely recommend sending them in.
Does anyone take the British curriculum, if so - how do you upload your mid-year grades? We only have mid-year grades (in the Winter) and then final grades (in the Summer), so… do I leave Fall and Spring grades blank?

@hopefuluscbound Seems a few people on this thread have the same issue. If I were in your situation, I would NOT submit grades now since it’s optional. I would advise you only put your best foot forward. But know that if admitted, you WILL need to send in your a full/official transcript. So I say hurry up and pick up those grades to prevent any problems down the line. Good luck!
@smashhighschool I’d say call Admissions about possibility of submitting a LOR. As for submitting grades, I suggest you scan and upload a PDF of your grades thus far this school year.
Does anyone know the breakdown of internationals/in state/ out of state who get off the waitlist? or mostly only instate are given preference?
@Rohitmohit I don’t have any numbers, but If I have to guess. Since UCs depends so much on OOS revenue, I would assume that if an OOS students decline Cal, then he would be substituted by the next best OOS. Likewise, the same for in-state. This way they can control very closely both revenue and OOS/in-state ratio.
@Mia1623 I think that including a LOR at this point may actually decrease your chances. Admissions don’t like gimmicks. If you feel really strongly about it, then call them and ask for permission to have it included.
for the waitlist application, would not turning in grades and only doing the essay look bad…? my senior grades aren’t that great so i’d rather not turn them in
You can accept a different offer by May 1. The colleges understand that you need to have a college to attend. If you get into a school you prefer after May 1, just let the school you desire less know. They may ask for proof that you got off a wait list or appealed a rejection. The security deposit is non-refundable so they make some money from people who back out.
