UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

@ivyforest Hard to know. She has a lot of opportunities in the pipeline at the moment.

@grandscheme I heard the sciences po program is considered a bargain b/c the 2 years on French campus is inexpensive compared to Berkeley tuition. Is there truth to this rumor?

@CopperlineX2 I don’t actually know. We have 3 in college at the moment and two have done study abroad. One paid the intl. school directly. The other paid through her US school at the US rate. Expected would be paying US school rate 4 years but given how the program is actually dual degree, you may be right (that would be a relief!).

Got into the Math program(L&S)! Asian male. 3.98 gpa unweighted. 8 AP courses with 5. taken 6 post AP courses in math. 35 ACT. good ECs. SAT sub - math 2 - 800; English lit 740. out of state

Accepted into the College of Engineering(Mechanical) with Regent Scholarship Invitation!

For those that are curious about stats:
4.0 UW GPA
School ranking: N/A
ACT: 35
SAT Math 2: 800
SAT Physics: 800
SAT Chinese: 800
11 APs including senior courses
Lots of EC

Huge congrats to those who got in today! If you are offered a regents interview, make sure to sign up for a slot. For those of you disappointed about not hearing today–hang in there. You are still very much in the running for UCB and will know in about 6 weeks. Go bears!

@hbrunner What about those who got in but didn’t get Regents? Is there a possibility of getting Regents later in March?

Does anyone know if/when we will get the letter in the mail with details of our aid package etc.?

can anyone provide information about the interview for regents scholarship?

  • how long the interview is?
  • stuff specific to uc berkeley they might ask? (e.g. what clubs or programs you'd want to join at berkeley)
  • since you selected your major when you signed up for the interview, are they going to ask a lot about what you've done / what you plan to do related to that major?
  • are they likely to ask you to elaborate on stuff in your application (e.g. a club you listed but didn't write about in essays)
  • just in general what types of questions they'd ask, more related to your future plans or more related to getting to know you as a person ??

Were all Regents slots notified today? Were all athletes notified today?

Is the financial aid summary that’s available to view on calCentral definite or nah… because as of now there’s absolutely no way my family can afford to contribute/take out that much in loans.

Congratulations to all the admits! Did any international applicant receive the early acceptance yet?

@traveler2000 I can answer your questions as a current Regents scholar here at Berkeley.

  1. The interview was extremely chill and laidback. It lasted for 30-45 minutes or so.
  2. I do not believe they asked me anything about that. The interview was about generic passions and what you are interested in. They are looking for people who aren’t complete and utter nerds but have a direction that they want to pursue in their life. Even if you are undecided, mention your interests and expound upon why you are interested in them.
  3. Nah. I’m EECS and I literally had only one extracurricular relating to STEM. They will probably ask you why you are interested in your proposed field of study though.
  4. Yes, this is the main goal of the interview and probably what will happen in the first 20 minutes of the interview. They want to clarify your various extracurriculars so make sure to get your story straight and try to weave it into a narrative. Please explain why you pursued these extracurriculars and organizations (I wanted to get into a good college is not the right answer).
  5. The interview is more of a casual conversation. After the initial 20 minutes of ‘grilling’ me on my application, my interviewer and I launched into a discussion on traditional art forms and it slowly devolved into great places to eat around campus. They want someone who displays leadership qualities and is at ease with speaking in a conversational and not just academic setting.

From what I heard, the interview does not have much bearing on the ultimate decision as do things such as your essays, application, GPA, and test scores. However, it is an excellent way to see whether Berkeley is the right fit for you. Feel free to ask your interviewer any questions or concerns you might have about the campus. I wish you the best of luck with your interview!

@ivyforest Unfortunately, those who received the offer for early admission but no Regents invite are not in consideration for Regents. However, the fact that you got into Berkeley is in and of itself quite the accomplishment! Congratulations!
@WantInternship As far as I know, all Regents notifications are sent out at the same time.

I unfortunately didn’t get a notification today. But I’m super happy for everyone who got in and am excited and hopeful for March!! BTW anyone know when regular decision comes out? Is it 1 day or is it also rolling?

Anyone who got in want to share their stats?

@musicalitty According to the portal, it’s March 29.

any internationals that got it?

I got accepted in Electrical and computer science major, super happy! Congratulations to all who got admits, others hang in there, still six weeks to go

I was sent an email regarding the Regent’s scholarship today! HOWEVER, I don’t post this to discourage anyone – I’ve thus far had many doors closed so just wait for one to open (yes, this is cliché).

Anyways, I’m not sure about the other UC’s… I’m going to look into it right now.

Good Luck everyone!!

Late to the party but EECS with regents invite!!! Congrats everyone!!

pm for stats
