If we did not apply for financial aid and did not list Berkeley on the FAFSA, should we still have received an email if we were admitted?
@momofNASAnerd Neurobiology. The email mainly went out to students who applied for financial aid (Sent FASFA to Berkeley). If you didn’t apply for financial aid you wouldn’t have gotten the email, that means you still got a chance. Relax. #Cal2022

Somebody left a comment on Cal’s Tweeter saying “so if you got the email you could still get rejected?” and they said “The email was sent inadvertently and financial aid packages will not be final until after Admission decisions are released, which will be Thursday. No decisions, admitted or not, were sent out today”…if they actually leaked who got accepted, wouldn’t they just acknowledge their mistake and say more yes’s will come out?
Several things…I love this site! Such a great support system and interesting to see different view points! Thank you everyone! Next, UCD is the only UC my S has gotten accepted into so far… but we are unaware of its leak…what happened there? Next UCB is his dream school…he received a LOR request and like everyone else, has been on a roller coaster of emotions today not being an email recipient, and wondering what that means for him now. Did any OOS or international applicants get the emails? If not, could it be just them as the remaining group of acceptances? One more thing, my middle S got augmented review in 2015 and was ultimately rejected. Next day he got an email from UC Berkeley Alumni Assoc (applied for scholarship after email invite) saying Congratulations on your acceptance (with his name) telling him they’re still reviewing his ap for scholarship, but wanted to congratulate him on acceptance to Berkeley! He was so confused and upon calling admissions got an apology from dean of admissions…but my point is why do they have these emails with students names prepared? Accidents happen, but so many kids have worked their buts off for years for this moment and already on pins and needles as it is! I’m praying those of you who have dreamed of Cal for years and REALLY want to go there like my son, are overjoyed with happy tears in your eyes 3/29 when you get that correct email!!! Good look everybody!!!
It’s not for me, for my daughter. She sent FAFSA information to all the UCs to which she applied , and has received a tentative financial aid offer for UCSB.
Fiasco.
What they are saying is no decisions about admittance were made today, because it wasn’t an “admission letter” it was a “financial aid letter”. They didnt release any admit decisions period. They accidentally leaked some financial aid letters that let people know they were admitted. I think their tweet is pretty clear, they aren’t going to say yes those who got those leaked FA letters are in, that wouldn’t be fair to everyone else still waiting. What they should do is release tomorrow so everyone can relax and breathe.
@knowledgeispower18 No International Students have received this e-mail, it seems to be directed towards US citizens who have applied for financial aid.
im guessing it leaked because maybe very early in the admissions cycle, they might’ve planned decisions to be on 3/23 and not 3/29, so emails went out to some accepted students (if this is the case, students whose applications were reviewed earlier than most) and they just forgot that they scheduled these emails?
i really hope the ‘small group of applicants’ was just a small group of the acceptances, not the entire group of financial aid-applied acceptances
@Abelo999 …my S is in state and would definitely be a financial aid recipient X_X didn’t get the emails
@knowledgeispower18 my advice is to not stress it out too much… it seems like only a very small group received these e-mails
@visigoth I thought the same thing about the dates. But after what @knowledgeispower18 just said about her son on 2015 that is horrible. Had your son already received his rejection from the UCB portal prior to getting the congratulations email from the Alumni Assoc???
for those who got the email can you please post your stats and major?
@Twinmomhell yes…probably like 18 hours later he got the congratulations! He came running in my room all excited and confused! At that time we had only seen one more applicant it happened too as well
@knowledgeispower18 that is HORRIBLE, I am so sorry that happened to your family. So this is the reverse situation, congrats email from financial aid with no admission decision yet, UGH. Either way what a stressful situation.
All I want is that official congratulations
Did anyone who did not apply for financial aid receive the email?
@Twinmomhell thank you! Yes we still talk about it today but he’s happily in his 3rd year at a college that ended up being a great fit for him studying to be a math teacher
I am so sorry to your daughters and everyone else dealing with this UC roller coaster right now
I applied as computer science and got the email. I got into USC as Computer Science so it does not seem unreasonable that I would get into Berkeley.
