There are 13 areas of application review criteria that all the UC’s use to evaluate their applicants and each UC determines the weight of each area independently. On the UC PIQ discussion, many good points have been brought up regarding how Unpredictable the UC’s are when selecting applicants and how important PIQ’s are becoming more vital along with the EC’s to differentiate all the 4.0+ GPA applicants. Although you cannot tailor your PIQ’s to each campus, each campus is looking for key attributes presented in the PIQ’s and EC’s. Each UC has a mission statement and much information can be derived from this statement on how they determine “fit”. Hi everybody. I know that CSU’s show more preference in admissions to students in their local zipcodes. Do UC’s also do this? Thanks in advance, and good luck on admissions.

I don’t think UCs officially do this at all, and yet perhaps in the end it ends up that there are more offers to NorCal students to NorCal UCs and more offers to SoCal students to SoCal UCs. That happened in my DD’s case (she’s NorCal and has been admitted to 2 of the NorCal UCs she applied to (time will tell about UCB, the 3rd), but to 1 of 4 SoCal UCs she applied to). Maybe it is at least somewhat about perceived “fit.” Or maybe my DD’s PIQs gave off a real “NorCal” vibe somehow.

This is likely true. The one pattern I’ve noticed is that there is a bit of a regional bias in UC admits. NorCal admits more into UCB and UCD, while SoCal admits more into UCLA, UCI, and UCSD. I could see this in my S22’s admissions by source school dashboard. 2022- UCB [image] 2022 UCLA [image] 2021 UCB [image] 2021 UCLA [image] I believe there was someone on these boards last year whose daughter got into Caltech and MIT but was waitlisted/denied by some of the lesser UCs even though she got ino UCB LSCS. I am not sure its yield protection but there is clearly some “fit” factor that these UCs have honed in on based on hundreds of thousands of reviewed applications over a period of time.

Accepted UCSC and UCR

For me, it says access denied for cal day registration and not authorized for the new student events registration.

When I click the Miami Welcome event and login I get this message:

I cannot answer for admissions but I would say no. They probably have made the majority of their decisions from the 123,000+ applicants. There was a deadline to change majors so I would imagine they would abide by that deadline.

What major did you apply to? If you applied to an L&S non high demand major it wouldn’t matter. If you did apply to a high demand major or to COE, sending a request this late may even raise a flag but I m only guessing and don’t know that for a fact.
