UC Berkeley Class of 2028 Official Thread

if helpful, my daughter (econ major) was admitted off the waitlist last year and was still admitted into econ which was their first choice (high demand) major - they are also guaranteed housing.

For those who are going through the UC application process right now, UC Berkeley’s Office of Planning and Analysis just released the admissions data for the Class of 2027 that enrolled this fall.

The linked website is useful in that it allows you to filter on each individual college’s applicant count, # of accepted students (i.e, “admit rate”), and # of students who chose to enroll (ie., “yield rate”). The hyperlink titled “Now It’s Your Turn to Explore the Data” contains this data.

Also for those currently working on their UC applications, please note that College Confidential offers a free essay review service. Some readers - including me - are very familiar with UC PIQs and we’d be happy to take a look at your drafts. More info here:

When you say fully weighted UC GPA, are you talking about UC capped or uncapped GPA?

Uncapped UC GPA.

Hi. I have twins who are interested in the same engineering major. Do you know if both of them applying to the same engineering major will affect their admissions?

No, each twin will be evaluated separately on their own merits.

What major are they interested in?

Bio Engineering major

I was simply curious about the major. Generally, if their PIQs and Activities line up well for a BioE major then they should definitely apply to that. Each applicant is going to be evaluated on their own merits relative to other applicants.

do we have the acceptance rate for out of state applicant? thanks

OOS admit rate for UC Berkeley 2023: 7.8%

31,309 applicants and 2443 admits.

Thanks, do we have the breakdown by major for out of state?

Basically, I am out of state. I would like to put College of engineering for first major and Physics in L&S as alternative major. However, I am worried if I got rejected by college of engineering, I will also lose the chance for Physics in L&S.

Thanks in advance

UCB does not break out admit rates by major based on residency.

Did she do anything specific when she was on the waitlist - for example, send a letter of continued interest or anything else.

UC Berkeley no longer accepts a waitlist essay as in previous years and will not accept additional unsolicited documentation including LOCI’s. For Fall 2023, students were able to upload their Senior grades but beyond that, nothing can be done to facilitate a positive decision.
