Hey Guy! So I just received my housing offer from UC Berkeley and was placed in the Clark Kerr Campus. Does anyone know if they have communal kitchens? I enjoy making my own meals and would like to continue to do so.
did you get the dorm or the apartments? The apartments have a kitchen, the dorm doesn’t.
Professor Plum, do you know anything about the Clark kerr apartments ?
I don’t know much about the apartment setup as opposed to the dorms. I pass by there all the time though. Ask your questions though, I’m sure someone can answer them.
thank you, Professor Plum, does anyone know transfers who lived in Clark Kerr apartments, did they get freshman roommates, did they opt for a basic meal plan even though they have a kitchen, did they feel they were surrounded by freshman ?
From what I read, I think only continuing or transfer students can apply for the CK apartments, so you wouldn’t get a freshman roommate. There’s a mix of apartments and dorm buildings which you would see a mix of freshmen (dorms), apartments (transfers and non-freshmen), and faculty housing.
thank you!
@JimmyJoBob
In CKC apartments last year. Applied again this year but didn’t get it. I really should stop promoting Clark Kerr so much. Revealing all the good secrets.
There are no freshmen. You’re generally with people in your grade. The nonresident meal plan ends up as 10$ per meal, but it’s close by when not very much else is, plus the gardening society is always giving out free plants. I got it because I don’t like cooking. I though it was worth it. The kitchens are fine. Bring small plates or the cabinets will never close. I feel like the fridge never gets too cold. My milk is always going bad early, or maybe I’m hypersensitive. No ice maker. No dishwasher. They didn’t have hot water for showers all last semester in Bdg 16, but we got used to it. Hopefully they fixed that. The store is a pretty short bus ride away. 2 buses go there. In Berkeley you always get pretty good at only buying what you can carry. Maybe there’s a little rolly cart on Amazon that you could get. No bunks, even if you get a triple. Most are doubles though.
Super pretty. People in other apartments don’t talk to each other too much. Generally all the guys were engineering and physics. Continuing students get to choose which room they’re in, so you’re probably not going to end up with other transfers because the continuing people spread out already.
Lots of storage in the rooms.
The 2 apartment buildings are separate from the dorms and you generally don’t go in the dorm area, so it’s fine.
@chipotle5ever There’s a communal kitchen in Bdg 12. Might be a second one. Probably not. It has an oven but don’t preheat it because it doesn’t stop heating up. I used to make cookies for the floor every weekend. BYO pans.
