Hey, for those who did Computer Science at UC Berkeley as a transfer student, did you apply for L&S? If you did, how did you manage your classes. What were your backup plans if you got rejected from berkeley because the prereqs are WAY diff than computer science at UCLA, UCSD .. etc. How did you plan it? Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

bump (10 char)

I applied to the EECS major, and I didn’t really complete the prerequisites for other UCs because of what you mentioned. I was rejected by both Cal and UCLA. My backup plan? I’m going to UCSC in the winter, where I think I’ll actually be much happier. :)

you dont have to get ALL prereqs. most of the prereqs that berk requires are not equivalent to the ones your cc offers. just do the ucla track well and youll get in

Well, I’d say the best way to go is completing UCLA’s prereqs, since they have way more. Then you’re probably safe for Berkeley too…at least that’s what I’m doing. So I hope that works as well as I think haha.

I’m a CS L&S major at Cal, and I wouldn’t recommend doing what I did in this situation. I only adhered to the Cal CS L&S requirements and just hoped for the best. arcadefire’s approach is definitely the way to go. The CS L&S major requires pretty standard CS classes as prereqs but it doesn’t require a lot of the other science prereqs that some other UCs do. If you want to be safe for your other schools, you’re just going to have to take extra classes that CS L&S does not require (taking such hard sciency classes will also increase your chances of admission at Cal). I know you can usually choose from a chem, physics, bio etc. series for most UCs’ CS/engineering majors; I would recommend that you take at least calc-based physics 1 and 2. If you take up to electricity and magnetism (physics 2), Cal allows you to replace the EECS 42 prereq with EECS 40, which is way easier.

why not do EECS? you can finish the requirement for Cal and other UCs.
that’s what i did. but i am more on a EE side

I’m not into EE I just like CS and I heard Cal has an extremely outstanding program in CS. But their prereqs are so different.
