UC Berkeley dorms

I’m looking into Berkeley’s dorms and I’d appreciate it if anyone can give me some suggestions. The most important factor for me is that I want a private bathroom (one that is shared with 4 people in a suite), instead of a communal bathroom that is shared with the whole floor. I’m also an international Asian student who got in College of Letters and Sciences intending to study in electrical engineering. So it’d also be great if the dorm is close to classrooms.

These are my chooses for now:

  1. Foothill
  2. Stern
  3. Wada apartments
  4. Towle Hall
  5. Cunningham, Davidson, Ehrman, and Griffiths
  6. Ida Sproul, Norton, Priestley
  7. Cheney, Deutsch, Freeborn, and Putnam

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi. I don’t know much about dorms but I noticed you said you’re L&S and want to study EE. Do you know how plausible that is? I’m trying to do something similar but I’m not sure how impacted courses like that may be. Sorry I didn’t answer your question at all though

Hi, my S2 is a EECS freshman and he said that Foothill is the closest to the CS and EE buildings which is where most of your labs will be. However most of your lectures will be towards the middle/South of campus which is closer to units 1-3.

My S1, a junior, another eningeering student, lived in Foothill in his freshman year. He said while closer to classes, it might be harder to make friends with people in the suites. In the units, with 20 people on a floor it will be easier to make a closer knit community, while the suites in foothill vary in number; some have 4 and some have 20.

Tbh for the whole L&S thing, it will probably be close to impossible to study EECS (coming from two students in COE). You might be better off taking EE upper div requirements as electives.

It’s their opinions and hope it helps. Good luck!

@Alburrito I’m not sure actually. I think they work with the CS department though, and I’m fine with that too.

It’s extremely difficult to transfer into EECS from L&S. CS is easier but requires a 3.3 minimum GPA in CS 61A, 61B, and 70.

For your actual question, if you want a private bathroom Foothill is a good and likely option. It’s not popular for other reasons, mainly distance, so if you put it as your first choice you’ll probably get it.
