I was just wondering if uc berkeley engineering or other schools on its level (umich, uva, etc) is harder to get into than columbia engineering? specifically, biomedical engineering....or would they be considered to be on the same level?

It depends. Berkeley has its crazy quotas by major, race, high school, county, etc. Overall, it’s more difficult to get into Columbia. Personally, I would choose Columbia if given the choice. Smaller size, more flexible, location, student diversity–it’s hard to top Columbia in those aspects that really matter.

From personal experience, people who got into columbia eng gets into one top public at least if applied. vice versa seems not always the case.n ot sure about uva&mich, but Columbia does not take major choice into consideration in its decision.

harder to get into - columbia eng is probably one of the hardest eng schools to be admitted to based purely on numbers in the country. its boutique, so small, but quality is very high despite rankings.

plus its a fantastic overall undergraduate experience - with the bells and whistles that burly berkeley can’t offer.

if this was berk grad vs. columbia grad for engineering, I’d say berk for most things.
