UC Berkeley Fall 2011 Chance thread

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree

I wasn’t calling @shinra just making a general point about the Haas applicants IV seen on these forums.

27 units is impossible. That guy is not gonna make it.

My stats:

Overall Gpa: 3.1, can probably raise to a 3.3+ after fall
Major Gpa: 4.0
First generation college student.

What would be my chances? I have a friend who got into UCB with a 3.2 overall gpa for Asian American Studies.

Side Note: I will be applying for fall 2012 and I’d like to note that I have completed 26 units currently at a CC and 6 units at SJSU. I plan to take 2 classes in the summer at a CC for 6 units. and In the fall I plan to take 1 class at SJSU and 15 units at a CC. Would this still qualify me as a CC student?

Also does IGETC work for Asian American Studies for UCB? Reason why my gpa is a bit low is because I got 3 C’s in Economics, Chemistry, and English.

Thanks and appreciate for all feedback.

27 units is possible, if you’re doing introductory classes.

I agree 27 units is possible.
I personally do about 18 to 24 each semester and 10-12 units each summer semester.
I’m only 18 years old and I already have 102 units by the end of this semester from a CC.
I applied to Haas as a transfer with a 3.9X so it is possible =)

See what I am saying??!

Almost the same stats as the last kid.

102 units? All UC credited?

92 units are UC Credited the other 10 are not.
21 more days until the decision from Berkeley I can’t wait.

92 units? How could you apply?

You can have as may units as you like if you are transfering from a community college to a UC. The only problem is that UCB(As well as the other UC’s) will only transfer 70 of the units. So that means that my excess units will only will not count when I arrive to a UC.

@banana: What’s your major? Asian American Studies? Try to get at least a 3.4 if you are applying to any non-impacted major at Cal. If you’re going for an impacted major, you need a 3.8+.
Know that in taking classes at SJSU you have a unit limit. Apply to UCs as soon as you can because you can’t simply take an extra year which would push you over that unit limit.

I haven’t been able to get a good night’s rest because there are only 16 days left until the decision is out for UC BERKELEY. The problem is that I couldn’t apply to any other UCs or get any TAGs because my major is only offered at Berkeley… So that is why I just wanted to know what my chances were…

I am a community college student and I really want to transfer into UC Berkeley as an Industrial Engineer and Operation Research major… The problem is my GPA is pretty low… My stats are as follows:

Total GPA: 3.21 with 62 units (Got Cs in both Physics but the rest I have gotten As and Bs)
I have finished all the requirements for the major, and even the strongly recommended courses… Just not the ones that I had to choose 2 out of 4… Like Materials, Circuits, etc…

****I took two classes at UC Berkeley during their summer session and received a B in an upper division Sociology class and a B- in Gen Chem 1A… I am hoping this well help me get in… AHHH!

Not that this matters, but this Spring Semester I have held high A’s in Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and have As in the rest of my classes…But yeah, that won’t change their decision.

I have held an Industrial Engineering internship… I also have been an Interact Club Advisor for this year,… I was the president for the club my senior year in high school. I also worked as a lifeguard during my summer before community college and a couple of months after. I also held a committee chair position in the PBL of my college. I also worked retail but that just adds to the random extra curr. stuff I did.

cheetah - best of luck to you, you might need it…this major is extremely competitive and they look for people with very strong analytical skills. those C’s and that low GPA might really hurt you…but again, best of luck, it seems like a really interesting major and i hear that a lot of graduates have been recruited by many top managerial firms…

These are my stats:
I have a 3.96 from de anza cc
, 4.0 in my major (political science)
And completed 94 units and igetc upon applying.
I have a combat military
background (during which I overcame a bad injury) and of course
Used both in my essay and strongly tied them to my academic ambitions
My essay was great and perfected for two months and commended by over 10 people. I had a few ecs, being a youth counselor and participating in a few grassroots political activities, but nothing too serious other than a 4 military year service. I also only worked but
During summers and never during school
What do you guys think?

LOL you get an extra boost for never drinking. but you have an excellent chance :)

@cherryvaseline

I appreciate your comment a lot. Thank you!

We all just need to relax and enjoy the spring time

You guys can wait 16 more days if you’ve been working for 2-3 years

Just finish strong and be productive.
