Write powerful essays and you’re in.

2 incomplete prereqs at time of application. I’ll finish them next quarter but sucks that admissions officers won’t see the grades.

Are chances slim? I heard that UC need cash. Are entry req from a competitive 4 year uni going to be slightly lower than for CCs considering that the workload is more intense?

@boysdontcryy - It’s the fact that out of state transfers are not given priority over CC students. Check out the stats on this page. http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/transfer.asp

Thanks for the heads-up. If it’s of any help, I’m an international student? Will that factor in differently? And I guess I’ve got rather gd working experience that’s related to my intended major (Political Science).

The top 3 on the hierarchy are CCC -> cali state uni’s -> UC’s. Just try your best and hope for the best. Many international students have been able to pull it off.

international students mostly come from CCC anyways.

I won’t be surprised. But what I’m curious about is if GPA expectations for somebody coming from a four year college, a competitive one, will be scaled down since the workload and classes and more intense. I mean, at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, the avg is probably a 3 - 3.1? Of course I don’t expect to transfer with a 3.1 but I expect to finish this semester with a 3.85 (AT WORST), so yea.

legally obligated to serve CCC, but you can still try. you got a good gpa. if you get in, you know that you would have to pay out of state tuition

Haven’t you guys heard? - [UC campuses move to recruit more out-of-state students - Los Angeles Times](http://articles.latimes.com/2010/nov/14/local/la-me-uc-recruit-20101115)

And to be frank, I’m paying 37 grand for tuition at Michigan so I guess the reduction in tuition would be welcome. =)

Okay. No your GPA will not be “scaled down”. It is what it is. The problem is that you’re out of state in which does not give you priority. That article is good news for you :). Im not sure if that applies for transfer applicants. It’s hard to say. All I have to tell you is try your best and hope for the best. What’s done with the UC system is done and that’s totally uncontrollable to your power. Have factors that will WOW them so much, it will be impossible to turn you down.

well yeah ok, you would save 2k a year if you attended a UC

@nero103 Are u kidding? It would be a savings of like 15k!

no, 22k is in addition to 12k, which is in state tuition.

[Registration Fees - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html#undergrad)

17.5k*2=35k

and yeah I don’t know about the living cost in ann arbor, but the bay area is pretty expensive especially rent, which is so ridiculously high.
but still, you’ve got a high GPA and I would not be surprised if you got admitted.

It is somewhat sad to join this thread. I feel like my chance of getting in Cal has slipped away, or maybe I’ve never had any at first place. Not only I think my GPA will drop after Fall, but also is my personal statement “lame”.
Lame as it is, it was true to my heart in a way, so I wouldn’t write it any other way. I wish I could have pleased the reader but I guess I just went with my guts without planning much to do more major related talks.

I think many of you have great chances. If your GPA is anywhere around 3.8 to 4.0(after fall) and with fairly decent ECs, logically your chance is obvious.

Here is my stats:

Major applied: Nuclear engineering @ UCB, Aerospace engineering @ all other UCs and one state university.

GPA over all 3.98/ could drop quite a bit after Fall. ( very likely a B in Chem 1A, I have to laugh at myself, because it is truly an easier class than most other math and physics course, sigh…, don’t know what’s wrong with me)

PS: As I’ve mentioned, “LAME”.

ECs: nothing at all, a little community work a while back, it can be counted like nothing. No major related works or experiences, see? Now you know why my PS can be lame. I do not even work. I have a little child to take care of, that’s about it.

Good Luck to everybody. Don’t give up what you love to do if you don’t get in to Cal. : )

School: UC Riverside
GPA: 3.9
Major: Political Science
Pre-Reqs: Yes
UC to UC Reciprocity: No
Awards: Deans List with Academic Distinction (3.9 or higher)
EC: Honors Program, Golden Key Honors Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, Internship
Work: Writer for Demand Media Studios
Personal Statement: 8 or 9 / 10

I know UC to UC puts me at a disadvantage, but honest feedback would be a little reassuring :] thanks.

@kobeftw - I would say you have a 50-50 chance only because of your UC status. other than that, it looks great!

GPA: 3.9
Major: history
IGETC: done
Pre-Reqs: missing 2
EC: just work since highschool
Personal Statement: 9 / 10

Re-entry student. I don’t know if that helps or hurts me. :-D

@gattaca88
dont worry. my gpa is much lower. ill be around 3.81 after this semester.
Just like you, im applying for AE to UC’s except UCB where i put ME.
i have noting special about my EC and PS. i could put only 1 extra curricular activity which has nothing to do with my major. performing musical. rofl.
the only thing i can count on is that i got all A’s in my major courses and i finished them by this semester except one physics.
chem is not easy haha. im at the border of A and B for second gen chem. i always screw up my titration unknowns.
