UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@GoodAfternoonSir I noticed that myself. I think SDSU is getting a little uppity, :))

Been keeping up with the thread for awhile but just decided to post!
I can barely stand the wait… here are my stats

Transferring from one year at American school in another country + one year at CCC (67 credits at transfer)
Major: Society & Environment, sociology at other campuses
GPA: 3.84
Pre-reqs: all available were completed. One course was not offered at my CCC, but I have explained in an interview and am hopeful it won’t affect my chances too much.
IGETC: finished this semester
EC: high school and community theatre, musical instrument for 16 years, 2.5 month volunteer expedition, 3 month educational program in another country (language immersion and art history), summer job + some odd jobs here and there–nothing to do with major, college club membership + leadership: (environmental) philosophy and Queer Alliance, founder of a student org promoting environmental sustainability through vegan and low-impact lifestyle, member of and volunteer for an environmental NGO
(I think this is the weakest part of my application overall, no paid work in major field, hoping to change this this summer but will it be too little too late?)

Accepted: UCSC
Waiting: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD (regents invite) UCI

Just trying to stay positive and grateful!
I have put everything on the line for this specific major and got my GPA from a 3.72 to a 3.84 in a semester and I hope my application reflects my passion + determination fully! Best of luck to everyone.

@GoodAfternoonSir @Ohm888 They rejected so many high gpa applicants it’s crazy, a few of my friends with 4.0s got rejected. I was extra confused when I saw there were people with my same major that got accepted in the 3.0-3.3 range. Sounds like they had so many applicants, for any competitive major they almost exclusively accepted local transfers.

@GoodAfternoonSir @Ohm888 @willowstil My daughter a sociology major like @willowstil and applied to SDSU with a 4.0 but as a Sustainability major instead of sociology. She did this after looking at a SDSU site called Analytic studies and institutional research. It has tables that show so much info about who gets in for what major. how many apply and are accepted. When we looked at it for sociology transfers it was a major with like 800 transfer applications and less than 10% acceptance rate. She had the prereqs complete by chance for sustainability major and it had a much more favorable profile for admittance. Something like 70 applications from transfers and just under 50% accepted. The odds much higher. She was accepted there.

@sugarcane What an amazing table! Thanks for the lead. My teen’s counselor said do not even bother applying so they didn’t, but the stats are great for the program they wanted (2/3,) and it is the only one on California. Here is the link: https://asir.sdsu.edu/applications-by-major/

@spiritualgift thanks for posting the link! SDSU had such a strong preference for the local applicants both high school and transfer that we didn’t feel even with a 4.0 that sociology was a sure thing with the odds we saw on that site and chose major based on that information. It is a really good resource for those interested in applying there.
Wish the UCs had the same thing. All I’ve seen is the admitted student profile that UCLA has.

http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm

Here is the list of UCLA students admitted by major. This is a bit more in depth than the normal student profile imho. This was a really good insight when I was deciding on my major. Hope this helps!

@sugarcane1 UCs do have something similar! Number of transfer applicants, admits, and enrolls for every major at each campus, plus 25-75 percentile GPA range. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

@willowstil thanks for providing the link! I totally forgot the UCs have that. Great resource for future applicants looking to apply in the future.

Hi, I posted something here last night (my stats/info for transfer) and the post was flagged for moderation. is there any chance it will be reviewed and posted? i spent a bit of time typing it all out so i was bummed to lose it… also i doubt i actually broke any rules, must have been some sort of miscommunication? hoping a moderator sees this and helps me out, thanks!

@bl00ming You flagged your own post.

haha oops! clearly a newbie here. ty.

Super late to the game here, but feeling incredibly anxious and would love some insight.

Accepted: UCB
Rejected: n/a
Waiting: UCB

hey did you all receive the cal day invite?

Fellas…I just realized my international record (one semester in a top Chinese university with 35 units) would maybe drop my 4.0 to around 3.75. For Stat major that’s a lower 25%. Now I’m nervous lol… :frowning:

@cyion12 How come that you are waiting for UCB and got accepted at the same time?

Does anyone know if Berkeley (or any UC for that matter) considers AP scores for transfers? I was waived out of my first calculus course with a 5 on BC calc, even though assist said to take that course. I know AP scores are irrelevant for freshman decisions, and I want to know if it is different for transfers.

Also really really late here, but I applied as a junior, hoping to only have to do one more year to graduate. I have a 3.8 GPA, and I am applying as a film major (which is one of the easier majors to get accepted into), but to be honest, I am a horrific writer, and I do not think my essays were the best. Do you guys think that they play a big part in acceptance?

is anyone else a Global Studies major?

@HopefulUC1453 they do!! Any score above 3 should count as transfer credit. It better since that’s about have of my minimum 60 credits!
