UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@whostolemycookie a transfer counselor at my school told me i had to submit an honors transfer program completion form just to make sure i completed all requirements of the honors transfer program. i was told you need to do that for TAP? dont take my word for it though because my school has horrible counselors

@whostolemycookie I didn’t complete any forms for TAP either. I’m not part of a honors transfer program so maybe the forms are related to that?

@Ohm888 chance me Berkeley? 4.0 GPA, IGETC completed. All pre-reqs done. Applied math major. Not really any good EC’s, but 3 academic scholarships.

@bruins8clap sounds good but I’m not admissions. ?

Chance me!

    Weaknesses: 4 W’s :frowning:

I saw someone post their community college GPA, do UC’s look at Transfer GPA (only transferable courses) or community college GPA?

@blue99 Essays play some part but not to an extreme extent. As long as you have good grades and some EC you should be fine in my opinion.

@Glycogenolysis I think you have a very strong application! I went to Berkeley Summer Experience and the admissions officer said W’s do not matter unless you have a significant amount like 8+ in a row and do not explain or have a legitimate reason for them. I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about it. You have amazing EC’s, a strong gpa, etc. I wish you the best of luck.

Any of you know the acceptance rate for transfers that are from out of state schools? I go to NYU and I honestly really hate it here. The city and the school are both just super depressing and my experience here is just terrible since there’s literally zero sense of community here at NYU.

@anne123456789 Last year, 95% of transfers at UCB were from California Community Colleges. The other five percent includes transfers from CSUs and other UCs, out of state CCs, and other four year institutions. So it might be more difficult unfortunately, but it is possible!

Out of curiosity, why do you find New York City depressing? Unfortunately, Berkeley’s got it’s fair share of depressing issues too.

@solostrn i thought the honors program TAP is only for UCLA? @studentagain I’m part of the Berkeley TAP that has nothing to do with the honors transfer program…

@whostolemycookie I’m part of the Berkeley TAP program too that doesn’t have anything to do with honors. Idk I’m just as confused about the forms that were mentioned…

@solostrn TAP honors is only at UCLA. Berkeley’s TAP is simply getting assistance during your time at a CCC and is for minorities, first gen or financial aid applicants.

@willowstil Umm I think because of NYU’s lack of community, it is really difficult to find actual friends who aren’t just class acquaintances. During Freshman year when everyone was desperate to find friends, it was easy and I had a really fun first year. But as of Sophomore year, I moved to an off campus apartment which pulled me further away from campus and as of NYU, a lot of people just stick with their groups and a lot of my friends went to Florence for study abroad so I was kind of just left alone I guess? And I tried to make friends but everyone already had their friends and are basically pretty “against” stepping out of their comfort zone and making new friends. I attribute that to the lack of community at NYU haha. It’s just that at NYU, people are really different and NYU makes no effort to make good events that bring students together. As far as I know, most events barely have any attendees. Idk if i’m making any sense right now because I feel like its hard to type down haha but yeah basically… And I know so many kids at NYU who hate NYU but stay because it is NYU lol (sorry long message :P)

@willowstil it might sound really stupid it got me feeling super depressed for a very long time last semester and the beginning of this semester

Does anyone know how competitive the selection process is for Letters of Science in terms of GPA?

@toronto99 This is your best bet: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
This shows the 25th-75th percentile GPA range for each major, along with some other stats. Keep in mind that 25 percent of applicants had a GPA higher than that range, and 25 percent had a lower GPA. You can select the school and the year from the drop down bars at the top. Also look back through these forums, you can find a lot of answers that way

@anne123456789 That doesn’t sound stupid at all, loneliness is the worst. I was more asking about what you didn’t like about the actual city, since Berkeley has some similar issues as NYC. But it definitely makes sense why you don’t like the school if you feel very isolated. I hope you can find a place where you feel more connected

@anne123456789 Did you apply for this fall? If so, I hope you can get in this year. If not applied yet, you probably want to move to California as soon as you can to build residency and start taking relevant courses in CCC.

@Ohm888 I have 0 EFC. Let us say I get into UC Berkeley. I would take 2 classes during the summer, which is 8 units. The 8 units and summer registration fees would equal to 3700 dollars.

UC Berkeley says that I would get 3,000 dollar pell grant, and also able to get UC Berkeley Summer grant up to 3,000 dollars. I know for a fact I would get the pell grant, as it is just federally given. But the UC Berkeley summer grant seems to be on first come first serve basis. Do you see me being able to get the maximum award for UC Berkeley summer grant?,
