@GoodAfternoonSir That’s weird. I received my decision in early August. It might have to do with the fact that that was my TAG school.
@Makemeabear it’s hard to understand what they look for exactly. For instance I’m applying to the media studies major with a GPA that falls somewhere in the 50th percentile but I finished all 4 prereqs with As and my IGETC is fully completed. Do I stand a chance against people applying with higher GPAs?
@CynicalOptimist yeah the uc that you tagged give you your decision much earlier, around november 2018 if you tag’d for fall 2019. I received my UC davis tag at around that time.
I really hope I get a good news tomorrow.
btw, what would you guys choose? Between UNC and UCB?
I am a California resident and in late 20s.
Both are my dream schools, and I already got into UNC and already got FA packets and set up the schedule.
If I get accepted tomorrow and choose UCB, I’ll probably commute from home. (My home is in East Bay).
@riotseason if you plan to live in NC after you graduate, go there. If you plan to live here, choose UCB. One big reason? The majority of students are from the area where the school is. If you go to UNC and then come back, most of your connections will be staying in NC.
so it’s 100% not at midnight?
I was just on a break from class talking to someone about admissions decisions and how stressful it is. They pulled out the yield protection thing and now I’m super anxious that I didn’t get into UCB or UCLA because I got into UCSB and UCI. They were basically like “well you know the UCs all know which other UCs you got into, so the less competitive UCs will often deny you if they see you got into UCB or UCLA, assuming you’ll go there instead.”
Does anyone know how true this is? How often do people get into all of them? Ive heard this before. It makes sense to me that they would try to protect their yields but I’m also like why would they pass up offering admissions to qualified people that very well could wind up going there, regardless of where else they got it.
@DJCABO ya its probably coming out like 3:30 tomorrow
@ajstsubasa10 of course, I’m not in admissions so I can’t say for sure, but they at least claim to look at the whole picture, including employment while attending college. That’s part of their “holistic” approach to admissions. I’d say if you have a very high GPA, fulfilled all the pre-reqs, are transferring from a CCC, and worked full-time while attending college you stand a decent chance.
@Left_hand 100% lie. How do I know? I got into all four of those schools last year. Another common myth is that students only get into UCLA or UC Berkeley and not both. You can get into all of them, you can get into none of them, sometimes people get into the ones that are usually harder to get into but not others, sometimes vice versa.
@Left_hand your friends just said like they were a child, not a college student with critical thinking skill.
A lot of competetive students last year got accepted all 4 UCs including UCB and UCLA, some chose UCB, some chose UCLA.
@Left_hand What your friend said is incorrect. This is from the UC Admissions website:
Do campuses make their admissions decisions independently from other UC campuses?
Each UC campus evaluates each application without knowing the status of the same application at another campus. In making admission decisions, campuses do not consider where you’ve applied or your admission status to other campuses. All campuses consider your application simultaneously, yet independently of all other campuses you applied to.
@Left_hand That wouldn’t even make sense if you applied yield protection. True yield protection regarding UCs, if it were true, would be UCSB and UCI rejecting you because they knew you got into UCLA or UCB, which would be even more unlikely due to UCLA and UCB usually being the last ones to release decisions. Also, I’ve seen a lot of people get into numerous UCs. There’s so many variables that go into which one you get into, but that is not one of them.
I know it’s not something they advertise. Of course they wouldn’t say that they do that. It just almost has to be true to some extent. If not, the yield for some of the schools would be super low, right? I don’t know. If it is real, it’s probably not a huge factor, but it would explain some things.
@Left_hand thats why they have what you called Waiting list. If the enrollment is lower than they planned, they take more from Waiting List.
That’s why my Professor who teaches at Ber reminded me that I should not give up even if I am in Cal waiting list, some would be called.
@Left_hand definitely it is not how it works. I have friends that got in 4+ UC’s including Berkley and LA. If you are competitive enough you will get in and it does not matter that u already got into Irvine and SB
I just saw on a different thread that someone withdrew from applying to Berkeley because they don’t accept incomplete IGETC. Is this true? I have a certified partial igetc, (one class short) but I didn’t take that class because it was irrelevant to my major. It’s a fine arts class
yeet they come out today
this is in the UCB admission tweeter: “Transfer decisions will be released on April 19, sometime before 11:59pm PST” I am guessing it will be in the afternoon like always…
Y’all I wasn’t scared beforehand, but now it’s hitting me
