I’ve received 4.0’s my entire community college years and anticipate another 4.0 semester as I am doing well in all my major prep classes.

Weakness: 1 W in Chemistry and one C in intro chem class from sophomore year of highschool.-- none are major prep

Ethnicity: Vietnamese/Chinese
Gender: Female
Income: lower-middle class
Hooks: first generation, mental health issues that I used as inspiration to work harder to serve others.

For my personal statement, I decided to write about something that’s extremely raw and personal about the loss of my grandfather this semester that made this semester the most difficult one of all. I wrote about how he inspired me throughout my life, as well as some other personal nuances that I feel developed me as a person in a lot of ways.

Schools (in order of preference): UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCD, UCSD, Stanford

good luck everyone!!

@duranceau951 I thought transfers can’t apply for data science?

@neilsola Yes, it’s a closed major right now, so I can’t apply as data science. I will be going in as a statistics major and then applying to the data science program my first semester there at UC Berkeley

@Iwishforhaas Sorry for the late reply! Been a crazy time finishing up this last semester here. I think you can go on my past posts to see any notes / recommendations I’ve made. Not sure how many days you guys have left, but this is probably the best thing I can share at this time:

If you poured your heart out into your writing and shared your true, unique story - then trust what you wrote. I’d like to believe that UC Berkeley is indeed a very “holistic” school. They look beyond just grades, but what you’ve experienced and what you’ve done to overcome certain hardships - and most importantly - how you’ve shared, cultivated, or utilized what you’ve learned for the improvement of yourself or others.

A year ago I was in your shoes, so I know what you’re all feeling. Finish up those essays, read them over, press submit - and let it happen as it should.

Fun fact: I might’ve shared this but I had a typo in my essay and stressed WAY too much about it. Seems like it wasn’t a big deal in the end :slight_smile:

P.S. - Anyone from EVC / SJ, feel free to reach out with questions and I’m happy to help!

Good luck!

Is there anyone in this thread who has applied to the Haas undergrad program? I’m not sure if I’m in the right place or if some have already started a separate thread. I’m new to the site and just submitted my applications last night.
Good luck to everyone on their submissions!

@ashleymp I have submitted mine. You are in the right place

@neilsola I’ve gotten the Personal statements reviewed and polished. I’m halfway done filling up my application.

@ashleymp I’m applying to Haas so you’re in the right place :slight_smile:

@neilsola @GoodAfternoonSir Perfect, thank you!!

Some stats for Haas transfer applicants - For 2018, only 38% of applicants were actually eligible for Haas, so that’s the first gauntlet. Out of the eligible group, offers were given to about 14%. 5% admit rate if you count all transfer applicants, eligible or non-eligible.

@ashleymp np, I also applied to Haas if that wasn’t clear.
@GoodAfternoonSir I know you will get in to Haas. I filled out all the info for my application months ago so that I only have to focus on the personal insight questions later on.
@ProfessorPlum168 Yeah I always look at the class profile.

Whew! I’m finally done! Honestly, besides the personal insight questions, the Activities and Awards section took so long to complete!
@neilsola Hey thanks! I think you’ll get into Haas too! If we both get in, then we can work and complete the classes together! I just hope both of us get the honor and then we can take advantage of all the opportunities offered by the college.
Personally, I finished and polished my personal insight questions before today. I just needed to finish filling in the info within the UC application

@ProfessorPlum168 so let me get this straight. Out of all the eligible applicants (The people who completed or will complete all pre-reqs by spring 2019), 14% of the transfer pool was accepted into the Haas major?

@GoodAfternoonSir Yep, that’s right. Here are those exact stats on their website. Note the footnote at the bottom of the page. http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/class_profile.html#ineligible

@ashleymp oh wow! I thought the admit rate for transfers were 6% and comparable to Stanford! I feel much better now and I think I’ll get in!

@GoodAfternoonSir “the Activities and Awards section took so long to complete!” nice subtle brag LOL jk I know you have a lot of stuff going on in your life. I feel if I don’t get in it will be because of my extracurriculars. I have a 3.9 gpa but family situation prevented me from doing internships

Does anyone know anything about the Environmental Economics and Policy in CNR? I applied to that major because it’s something I’m interested in. But I couldn’t find any recent stats about the major. I will have a 3.68 GPA and have volunteered in Indonesia for half a year and have finished all of my classes including IGETC. I’m worried about my GPA, which might be the barrier for me getting accepted.

@LiBai123 2017 stats: 30% admit rate, 109 applied, 33 admit: 3.47-3.80gpa
good luck
