UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@NancyHuang you are admitted into L&S as an undeclared (no major), even though you put one down in your application.

@LiBai123 What’s CNR?

@sagaciousforever College of Natural Resources

@willowstil congrats! And I’m glad your Cal Day trip was worth the effort!

@salija thnx for your reply. You’re EC’s are great and no doubt your essays were really good as well. Congratulations to you again and best of luck to you at Cal! Your acceptance is well deserved.

Does UCB send out a congrats or a deadline to SIR email and does it mean anything if its in your promotion inbox?

ACCEPTED!!!
English/Poli Sci
GPA: 3.94
I am still shaking.

Accepted 4.0 GPA for Economics! Go Bears! Econ majors where you at let’s form a group!

@CalAlumandDad - Oh gosh please do not make me cry today. I really appreciate your response. I absolutely agree, UCI is great and it’s actually my very first choice :slight_smile: Berkeley would be cool also, but I know Psych is super competitive and there was actually an 8% transfer admit rate for psych majors last year. I know it’d be hard. I live in southern CA so UCI is a lot closer to me.

I’m getting so emotional rn bc I miss my mom so much. I wish she was still here, she passed away when I was a freshman in hs. I found out she wrote in a notebook that she’d want me or my siblings to get into UCLA or USC, hopefully I can make that happen for her (My brother is at Cal Poly now, my younger sister is only in 7th grade lol). We will see. Thank you again for your kind words, I’m excited to transfer anywhere in the fall. And congratulations to your son! Definitely amazing to hear about that, I’m sure you’re a proud father with all he’s accomplished so far.

@katyamzz congrats!

Rejected :frowning: applied for anthropology. Congrats to everyone who got in. I believe everything happens for a reason so I won’t cry just yet. haha.

Hi, I just recently got accepted to Berkely for Economics but applied for the 2019 fall year. I got accepted for 2020 spring… Does anyone have any clue with this?

Accepted!!!

Applied Mathematics
3.79 transfer GPA*

*Originally I went to UCSC where I got 1 W and a 2.0 GPA. I heard somewhere that they do not accept C’s but my CC counted those classes as remedial classes as I did not get any credit for them towards my degree. I have a 4.0 overall GPA at my CC.

ADMITTED! Long-time lurker here so I thought I’d give a longer post since I haven’t really seen detailed posts from English applicants in past threads:

CCC transfer - American River College
Major: English (admitted to Letters & Science)
GPA: 4.0 w/ completion of CCC honors program
IGETC: Complete
Prereqs: Done by Spring 2019, doing one last survey class (I highly recommend doing all 4 + the Shakespeare class if you can, since all five of the equivalent courses are required for English when you get to UCB anyway)
Applied: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine (TAG)
Accepted: All

ECs: Just worked part-time retail jobs and did some volunteering at my local library starting this past summer. Probably the weakest part of my application and why I thought I wouldn’t get in, considering UCB is tied for number one for English and has a more holistic approach than the other UCs (or so I’ve been told).

Essays: Honestly, probably average, considering my major and the fact that I didn’t have much to show for in terms of ECs. I really just focused on my interest in English in pretty much all the essays, so perhaps that helped. I did about 90% of the writing on the day of the application deadline, so no one looked at them (I do NOT recommend this, btw!)

Still waiting on Irvine to release financial aid info so I’m not sure where I’m going yet, but Davis is a definite no at this point since Berkeley actually offered a little more in financial aid and I prefer the other programs to Davis’s. However, I don’t want to fall into the prestige trap and I do like the location of Irvine better, so I’m waiting until after I go to each school’s Transfer Days before I decide.

Anyway, wow - it’s been a wild ride. Created this account over three years ago, got rejected for freshman admission, and now here we are. Even though I may not attend Cal, it still feels great to be admitted after being rejected (though I think my Cal alum dad is probably more excited than I am, lol). Best wishes to everyone reading this! :slight_smile:

P.S. Ignore the 2/4 address conspiracy. I was at a different address when I applied as a freshman, so both my old address and my current one are on there. I’m guessing it just has to do with the system taking old info into account.

I believe someone mentioned that a few pages back. Berkeley stated that whether you got admitted for Fall 19 or Spring 20 had nothing to do with Academic performance or any faults, but rather the sheer volume of qualified students that applied. I didn’t even know that can happen haha.

@jordanh16 I also go to ARC! Got admitted as a history major!

@Not2cool4school Yay, ARC humanities majors represent! Congrats! :slight_smile: I noticed your posts in the other threads for the UCs I applied to - a 4.0 AND raising kids? You’re killing it! That’s honestly so awesome. Do you have any idea so far which school you’ll be attending? Lol Davis is a little too close for me but getting Regents is no joke.

I said whoever read what I spilled in my essay and proceeded to reject me your ____ a ____.

2018 dad of a transfer here - Congrats to all that got in, and my sincerest best wishes to those that did not.

For those that got into CAL or any other university, seek out the Transfer Student Center ASAP. CAL runs a great program where you can get involved, learn what services are available to you, be a part of a community through events, etc.

This program was a huge part of my daughter’s transition from a CC to becoming a leader at Cal.
