I dont know why i was rejected from cal. I’m a physics major that had 3.92 gpa and wrote about how i wanted to pursue gravitational physics and started a research group at the lawrence berkeley national laboratory. i also write about how i had depression during high school and didn’t get good scores but i overcame that and got almost all A’s at cc. I even wrote about how I organized and helped my college host its first Putnam competition and scored a 2 in it and after that I founded a study group for that. My parents both have a skilled job and my mom has a phd in mathematics; does this play against me because cal really prefers first gens and minorities? I really don’t know the explanation besides that or that Im an international student or that I just wasn’t a good fit to cal.

@nontraditional not sure if that was @me? I had a CFO of a large company (friends mom) and a PhD (bio professor buddy) go over my essays, but maybe? I’d post some excerpts if that’s cool?
@uclaletmeinpls So sorry to hear! EECS at UCB is the #1 in the nation with a very low acceptance rate (10% of transfers get in). Did you finish IGETC and all pre-reqs (calculus, physics, chem, organic chem bio, cis)?
@90smix I did do all the prereqs, didn’t do IGETC but I did do all of the “strongly recommended” courses.
But from their transfer agreement on Assist, it says “The College of Engineering does not recognize the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) and strongly discourages students from following this option due to the number of major-specific technical courses required for engineering transfer admission.” So I don’t think that’s the issue.
@uclaletmeinpls Hmmmm I wonder if you could contact them and ask? I know some unis get so many competitive applicants they just select randomly (my brother went to Cal Poly SLO for CS and heard that when it comes down to multiple applicants with 4.0s at the end, they just randomly select a few). A lot of great candidates get turned down, it stinks. Either way good luck with any other decisions you may have!
hey guys has anyone heard anything about the regent scholarship? i just called admissions and they said they would sent the notification by now but i haven’t seen anything in here about some one getting the notifications
i got accepted to cal and dropped my speech class (took it for csu) since i no longer need it anymore. but i checked the conditions of admission and it says that i have to complete all planned and in progress coursework. do you guys know if this will this affect my admission decision?
The Regents Scholarship for transfers is determined on a different timeline than Freshman.
From the UCB scholarship website:
“Advanced standing (transfer) candidates are considered for the award in early May via admissions file review by the Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid.”
@cs123456 Contact your admission officer via email. He/She should advise you to complete the Update Form. I think it is fine since Speech is not part of your major pre-req. Do you have enough units for transferring though?
