@neilsola Good News, I just found out that I’m eligible to receive a 7th associate’s degree. I will put this in the additional comments section. Would this make an impact whether big or small? I’m just getting eligible for more degrees based on all the classes I’ve taken previously.
@GoodAfternoonSir I don’t think it will make any impact whether it’s 6 or 7. The message is still clear
@GoodAfternoonSir are you over the limit for transferable units?
@neilsola after this semester I’ll have 96 units. All of my classes are lower division so I won’t be rejected for having too many units. I’m assuming that they will only accept at most 70 units. I’m just taking more classes to keep myself busy and raise my gpa higher.
They did away with the IGETC form?
Hi everyone! CCC Transfer here.
Major: Integrative Biology
Major GPA: 4.0
UC GPA: 3.86
Extracurriculars/Work Experience:
- Campus Honors Society (President)
- Billing assistant/secretary at a behavioral health clinic
- Summer research at a lab at Stanford University
- Private tutor for high school students focusing on math and science courses
- Facilitator for a biology supplemental instruction course on campus; lead a 2 hour session weekly with worksheets I made by myself
Degrees:
- AS in Biological Sciences and AS in Natural Sciences by Spring 2019
Personal Statement:
I wrote about graduating early from high school (taking the exit exam) for familial reasons and joining my local community college after sophomore year. My father has a chronic back condition and my mother works full time so I had to be at home to help my dad along with picking and dropping by younger brother to school. Adapting was a challenge but I talked about how I changed my habits to succeed.
Another essay focused on the lab work I did at Stanford and how it acted as a doorway to discovering my love for research.
My leadership essay focused on my role as the president of my campus’ honors society and how the position changed my views on the role of a leader.
Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):
- Summer research at Stanford
Strengths:
- I am taking around 18 units a semester as well as working part time. I also have many responsibilities at home so time management it my biggest strength. Additionally, I have a secured research position for the coming summer at the same lab.
- Physics was highly recommended but not required for my major but I’ll be done with both parts of it by Spring 2019.
Weaknesses:
- I got a B in second semester general chemistry while taking it over the summer. However, this class wasn’t required for my major, I just needed it as an ochem pre-req. My parents were out of state for my dad’s surgery, so I was taking care of my grandmother and younger brother at home while attending the class Mon-Fri. The commute to my college is around 40 minutes without traffic so that was also a challenge I mentioned.
- My younger brother had a concussion near the end of this semester which dropped my Spanish grade to an 88.5 because of my sudden participation drop. It showed up as a B on my transcript so that was a hit to my gpa.
Applying to what schools?
UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCD (tag approved)
I’m considering applying to Johns Hopkins and NYU but I doubt my qualifications are good enough.
@bearsbeets20 To be frank, it seems to me that if they don’t admit you they are dumb as hell. Good luck with everything in your life!
Hello everyone!
My name is Caitlynn and I am one of the Coordinators of UC Berkeley’s Starting Point Mentorship Program. I am a Political Science major graduating this spring. SPMP aims to help prospective transfers by matching you up with current Berkeley transfers! They are able to help you with admissions and application questions, questions about your major, questions about summer courses, and so much more.
I strongly encourage all of you to apply. I was in your same shoes two years ago and I wish I had known about this opportunity. This is open to ALL community college students - you do not need to be from the Bay Area to apply, most of the communication happens via email or messenger.
College Confidential won’t let me post the link, but just google Starting Point Mentorship Program application and you should be able to find it.
Please feel free to ask me any questions on here or email me at startingpoint@berkeley.edu
is there anyone who is majoring in the MCB dept. with a 3.6-3.65 GPA or knows anyone that transferred to Cal with that GPA. My GPA is low, but i explained the reasons in my PIQ and I have a lot of ECs as well. I just want to know my chances for getting in with a GPA around 3.6
Does UCB look at SAT scores for transfers? On the portal it indicated that they have received my high school SAT scores from my freshman application, but I never reported any scores on my transfer application.
No, you don’t need them for transfer.
I have a question so in Berkeley we can freely change major within the same college right? I’m a chemical engineering major but I just applied as chemistry to be safer. I planning to change into chemical engineering once I get in.
You cannot switch into College of Engineering after transfer
https://engineering.berkeley.edu/admissions/undergrad-admissions/change-college
Oh both chemistry and chemical engineering are in College of Chemistry
Chemistry is in the College of Chemistry. Chem Engr is in College of Engineering. You cannot switch into College of Engineering.
Nah chemical engineering is also in the College of Chemistry. Chemical engineering is not in the College of Engineering.

Oh I stand corrected! I thought all engr majors were in college of engr. Well then as long as you have the req completed by first semester it should possibly be doable. Thx for clarification!
Oh haha np. Thank you as well
@Emmanuel7 Hahaha thanks I really appreciate it! Just nervous like the rest of us :’))
Does EECS accept transfer student with one missing prereq course? I am currently missing differential equation course and couldn’t take this semester because of time conflict.
