UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Thread

Can you elaborate on how that works?

If I get a job on campus does that money go straight towards my tuition? Do I have to take a loan out first?

Anyone get the cal week email and see what your AO said

Yes! My admissions officer didn’t really say much about my application or anything but it was sweet getting something that felt somewhat personalized.

@missjellybean109 was it Mr.San Diego?

I have a stupid question, we don’t need to fill the update form out if we don’t make any schedule changes, right?

Accepted!

Major: Applied Mathematics
GPA: 3.61
IGETC: will finish by spring
Major prerequisites: will finish by spring
Honors: yes, will finish my school’s honors program and graduate with 21 honors units
ECs: software engineering internship, worked as an IT assistant for my ccc, i swam a lot so i also put that as an ec!
Essays: i honestly don’t know if they’re good. I didn’t have anyone read it because i was shy :c but i talked about how i struggled with mental health in high school, barely graduated with a 2.8 GPA, and how I started to value education and finally started to challenge myself! i really tried to highlight that by taking honors classes in the subjects I was scared of most (math) and how I developed confidence and a love for it! i also talked about the software projects I worked on during my free time

honestly, I’m still so speechless. my gpa was below the 25th percentile so I thought I had no chance. I hope someone can find this information useful! it really helped ease my nerves reading everyone’s story c:

Accepted to the college of letter and science!
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.96

Does anyone know how hard it is to declare the Economics major? (or basically how hard it is to get above 2.7 for the econ prerequisites at Berkeley?)

@demidemi I’m actually “declared” I already took 100a and stat 21w during summer session and I was told by the Econ Department to email them once I was readmitted to formally be accepted into the major(I got a 3.0 in the pre reqs.)

The classes you have to take arent that hard if your math skills are solid. Econ at Berkeley is basically just applications of calculus. If your good at Calc stat 21w is going to be the harder of the two classes.

Accepted! College of Chemistry
Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.73
ECs: STEM Tutor at my CCC, tutored an elementary schooler outside of school, worked 20+ hour weeks first year at a small-business restaurant, was a member of my community orchestra, volunteered at a 5th grade science camp, took 17-20 units each semester (often all STEM courses) to finish in 2 years, received 4 B’s (all were 87%+). Honestly my essays probably got me in since I felt they were strong and it definitely wasn’t the GPA. I was bracing myself for the worst all day and cried when I read it.

I just want to say to everyone that did not get accepted that things will fall into place. I was rejected in high school and ended up going to cc and it was the best thing that ever happened to me - I wouldn’t have had it any other way. You may not see what’s in store for you at the moment but I promise that greater things will come. Trust in the process
