Does someone get UCB’s regent scholarship?
Multiple someones, usually.
I’m on bunch of chats and forums. But I haven’t heard of anyone from 2020 transfer student body getting Regents yet.
So keep your fingers crossed.
I think the past few years, it went into June before a small number of recipients posted their status.
And with covid-19, who knows what to expect this year.
Any waitlists hear back yet???
The financial aid website says that transfer Regents recipients will hear back in mid-May, so its possible that some people could get it sometime this week.
can scholarships be used for things besides tuition
Yeah. It’s meant to cover your tuition and your LIVING COST. So yes.
I just got the email for the Regents Scholarship
I also attended one of their transfer tuesdays financial aid chat. They said that regents scholarship notifications should come out by the end of this week. also, seems like @calBum4 got it? if so, congrats!
Trying to join the Berkeley transfer group but seems like admins are inactive.
First, congrats! It sounds like only a handful of transfer students get regents.
May I ask what your stats were like?
Personal: First Gen Hispanic male, 20 years old
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.9 (had an F, a W in Calc, a B [during a semester I took 7 classes and worked part time], and the rest As).
ECs: Tons of political stuff–both academic and practical and tutored on campus.
PIQs: Strong 7s to Low 8s imo, talked about background (didn’t do well in HS, existential crisis), how I want to pursue grad school and all the opportunity I’ve taken advantage of (goes back to the ECs).
CC: located in the Central Valley, it’s not one of those CCs notorious for sending tons of students to Cal and UCLA
Hooks?: maybe just the PIQs and how I did a complete 180° from HS (where I did almost nothing) and CC (have done tons. I think they probably look favorably on that since it’s harder to be active at a CC.
Accepted: UCLA, Cal, UCSD (already accepted offer), UCSC (Merit Scholarship)
Didn’t expect it, was really out of left field for me tbh. I thought maybe UCSD or UCSC would offer me it–really wanted UCSD to offer me it–but I did not expect Berkeley to do so; an pleasant surprise to say the least. Really made my choice very difficult: this is a huge opportunity but I need to see this from all perspectives. Idk if the political science program is the best for my interests, Latin American Politics, that’s the main problem. Without a doubt it’s a premier graduate program, but idk if it’ll be the same for undergrad. I would basically have 1 year to make an impression on professors before applying to grad school; I don’t think anyone can deny it’s hard to stand out at Cal.
Also, the financial aid covers my unmet costs. I’m still expected to pay my EFC, but I don’t have to take out loans or use work-study. Essentially your EFC is all you’ll ever pay.
Wow. Congrats again. I can definitely see why they’d offer it to you.
Best wishes!
Hey Everyone, has anyone had any hiccups getting a UC Statement of Reciprocity from their original UC? As I read the conditions of acceptance, the breadth requirements are different from my current UC . I am particularly concerned with the 3rd/4th level foreign language requirement that won’t be met yet because my study abroad program got cancelled that would have fulfilled it. However, UCB planned major does not have any foreign language requirement- that I was able to confirm with someone in that department. Does anybody know if that is going to rescind my offer ? Not getting any specific feedback from admissions, just keep getting a referral to their website.
@transferme2 I assume you might be referring to college of Letters and Science, which does have that requirement if you don’t have IGETC or LoR. Considering the circumstances and your study abroad getting cancelled, they might give you a pass. Additionally you can usually fulfill the LoR this summer (the issuing UC usually allows that) so if you can do that Berkeley will probably accept it. I don’t know for sure — I’m only saying probably since others have successfully done that up here. It’s a possible option.
Hey everyone, has anyone had any success appealing their financial aid package? I come from a very low-income family and was given a financial aid package that covers the tuition, but I was hoping to get a full ride.
I have just gotten the news that I have been accepted into USC and although my financial aid package information haven’t been released to me, I think it’s very possible that I might be able to get a full-ride since I qualify under their <$80,000 free tuition policy so any additional financial aid package on top of that would qualify to me as a “full ride.”
I’d really like to attend UC Berkeley, but I’d not like to put myself in debt while doing it. I’m hoping that if I’ve gotten a nice financial aid package at USC, I can use it as a way of negotiating the package at UC Berkeley. Does anyone have personal experience or know anyone who has successfully negotiated their financial aid package with a UC? Thanks in advance.
@dehydrated the free tuition is only for incoming freshmen

@ascendiox Oof. I see. Guess I can’t even be sure about USC either.
Regardless, is there any information about the likelihood of being able to negotiate financial aid package?
Im filling out my statement of legal residency and its asking for my last renewed date for my drivers license but I have not renewed it cuz it hasn’t expired. do i just leave it blank? i dont wanna mess up cuz i cant edit it afterwards lol.
It sounds like it means it just wants the last date it was renewed, which is listed on the license.
