UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Thread

I just did. Thanks for looking out.

is it typical for the school to ask for your transcripts before admission decisions have been released?

@maddieobauer I’m guessing that depends on why they are asking. Could be a good sign, possibly not. Hopefully someone else here has more experience with this.

depends whoses asking. It should say at the bottom of the email. If its from the UC system it likely just them checking. If its from Berkeley they’re interested based on previous threads.

Hi, all. So, I got the immediate response email last month, but barely noticed it today. I’m panicking, seeing as how I had a 5 day window to respond, but it’s been a month. They asked for the syllabi to 2 bio courses I took during my time at UCR. I responded today. So, are my chances of getting in anywhere screwed?

^^^ maybe

Hey everyone!

I applied to transfer to Berkeley as well and wanted to wish everyone the best of luck! I hope decisions arrive very soon just to get this whole process over with lol

Does anyone have a possible timeframe for us to hear back?

@flygaaaaaaal UC Berkeley transfer decisions come out on April 17th - it says that at the top of the applicant portal.

Hey guys!

I am planning on transferring this fall and am deciding on dropping a general ed film class so that I can have more hours at work and save a bit more money before I transfer. I will still be at 80 semester units after I drop this class and all my IGETC will still be finished. It is also not part of my major coursework as I am applying as economics. Will it affect my admissions decision if I drop this course and where would I update the UCs if I end up dropping it?

Thanks and good luck everyone!

@davidls I am!

@Lakers4Life , I can’t imagine it will be of any impact, however, I’m pretty sure they expect you to complete classes you said were in progress, and to let them know if that intention changes. So, I would let them know, but I would not worry that it’s going to impact your application. The only possibility is if it has you dropping below full-time, but I don’t know that would matter, but there may be a reason it would. Bottom line: contact admissions and ask. Always reach out and ask.

Just curious…why were you taking a class you didn’t need at all?

Hey yall, i saw last years UCLA thread, people were able to see if they got in in advance, how could we use that to our advantage this year?

@uclaking I don’t know if I’d try anything to figure out the results early, some students have had their offers rescinded from trying to view source code and other tricks like that, if that’s what your talking about. UCLA and Berkeley will be out soon enough

Hello! I was in the same boat as all of you last year and I was always on this website, so I wanted to share what my stats were at community college as a current UC Berkeley transfer!

Major: Media Studies
GPA: 3.9
Extracurriculars: None
Job/Work Experience: I had 4 part-time jobs while being a full-time student
Volunteer/Community service: I volunteered at my church as a retreat/summer camp counselor
IGETC/Major prereqs: Finished at community college

I applied to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, and UCR and was accepted everywhere but UCLA

I actually attended UC Riverside for one quarter after high school, then I dropped out and attended community college for 3 semesters, and I just transferred to UC Berkeley this past fall!

I just posted a YouTube video with more details on my whole college transfer journey because I’m really hoping it can help and motivate anyone going through something similar. Feel free to comment on the video if you have any questions because I would love to help with your transfer process. Good luck to everyone! Go Bears!

@randomuser1317 I’m in a similar position. I’m an interdisciplinary study major with a 3.88 and 90 Semester Units of transferable credit.

Mind if I ask how many units of credit you had to successfully transfer? My fear is a lot of my credit (30 Semester Units) comes from AP credit.

@davidls the number of units should not matter as much I think only some number (70?) Of units will actually transfer but they should all still count for something such as satisfying IGETC

What is the chance to transfer to UCB after two years from a small private school in California if the transferee is a california resident, a psychology major and has a 3.94 GPA?

Hi all,

I applied for physics tranfer but now want to change to math major. Should I update UCB my intention? I’m on track to satisfy both majors’ coursework at a CCC. When should I report the change of major? before UCB decision? before accepting an offer? Both departments are in the same college of letters and science. Is the decision made by the department or by the college? Is a new transfer on the first day an undeclared major student?

Thanks for sharing.

The UC center asked me for unofficial transcripts. Be sure you guys check your emails regularly.
