@Gumbymom but don’t umich and uva prefer their in state students too and still give good aid? uc berkeley doesnt even have that many out of state students compared to umich which is 50% for the class of 2020
@Eeee127: It is not just UCB but the whole UC system that no longer offers much FA to OOS students. It is the UC Regents decision and since I am a California taxpayer I can support their decision. Different states have different rules. The UC’s have no lack of OOS students and families that are willing to pay full fees to attend.
@Gumbymom This. Whoever advised OP to apply to Cal - if supplied with the family’s financial picture - should have their head examined.
