I was filling out the IGETC supplement for UC berkeley, and I wanted to know if you are using AP credit to fulfill the Social Science requirement, do you need to state that in the additional comment section? Also for the foreign language requirement, are we suppose to list the high school classes and the grades we got, or just check off the box that says "completed 2 years of HS.. with C...."?

@Transfer2Best, that should be fine, but you should put the course name and number on the form so the admission officer can figure out which course you will take.

I plan on completing these requirements with my high school work, but I was unsure which boxes to check.

In 9th grade, I completed french II and got a D+ in it, and in 10th grade I completed French III and got a C+ in it.

The boxes on the berkeley supplement form say “I have completed 2 years of a foreign language, and earned a C or higher in each semester” or “I have completed 3 years…etc”

On the L&S requirements page though, it states that I must have a “Letter grade of C or better at the end of the third year of a high school foreign language” to complete this requirement.

So, which box to do I check? I don’t want to lie on my supplement, but technically, neither box is true because I did not complete 2 years of a foreign language with a C or higher in each semester"

@football462, you have completed the equivalent of 3 years of French because you received a passing grade for third year of French. The UCs consider knowledge in foreign language knowledge as cumulative and higher level courses will “validate” your knowledge in lower level courses.

Thanks for the reply. So I should just go ahead and check the box “I completed a three year sequence of the same foreign language in high school with letter grades of C- or better.” even though the last French class I took was French III in sophomore year of high school? (technically I only took 2 french classes because I took French I in 8th grade).

Sorry if I’m repeating some things, I just want to be sure.

@football462, yup, check off the “I completed a three year sequence of the same foreign language in high school with letter grades of C- or better.” and you are good to go.
