I am applying to UC Berkeley in the fall as a Geography major, but I only have one prerequisite completed which is really unfortunate! The problem is that my college does not provide the rest of the prereqs according to Assist.org. I looked at many of the surrounding colleges, and they don't provide the rest as well. Obviously, this makes me not as competitive as other applicants. Anyone able to help out with this situation? Any Geography majors out there? I thank you for your help.

A Regional Geography course isn’t really articulated at any CCs so I wouldn’t worry about that one. I’ve seen Physical & World at a lot of the more predominant CCs. You might have to travel a bit to get there, but if you’re dedicated enough, I’m sure you can make that happen. Where do you live?

I live around Cerritos which is in So. Cal. I looked at many of the large CC’s, like Santa Monica and Pasadena, but they don’t provide much as well. However, they do provide the world section which I may have to take. The only prerequisite that I have completed is Physical Geography. I assume that it is perhaps one of the more important courses.

SMC offers World Geog as does OCC. Pasadena offers 2 different classes you can take to fulfill it also. Did you even try looking? These are really obvious schools.

You can also take Geog 14 at SMC to satisfy an additional lower level pre-req that isn’t one of the core 3 that we’ve already mentioned.

Here’s the problem: I took Introduction to Human Geography at my college, but it’s not considered as a prerequisite for UC Berkeley. However, if you take a look at Assist.org, UC Berkeley approves Introduction to Human Geography at SMC, which I find odd. Same thing with Pasadena City College. I took World Regional Geography at my school, but UC Berkeley doesn’t approve the course while it does for PCC. I tried to get into PCC in order to take Economic Geography, but since I had no priority, I was unable to take the course. I’m going to try again in the spring semester, but I’m afraid I won’t get it. Alternatively, I can try to retake some of courses that was aforementioned. Anyways, thanks for your help, killmyentoruage. I appreciate it.

That happens with classes all the time. Your CC courses probably just don’t cover the topics as extensively or in the same fashion as Cal. Try emailing the professors NOW about Spring semester, express your interest in the course, and mention that it is not offered at your CC and you have no other way of completing the pre-req. You might have to hunt down additional CCs and apply to a bunch of them.
