I'm currently going to Pomona College in Claremont, CA but I'm originally from New York. Do you know if I will qualify for in-state tuition at UC-Berkeley after I graduate? I'm registered to vote in California too. If not, what would it take for me to qualify? Thanks!

I'm sure someone who knows more will chime in, but when I applied to Berkeley last year, they said most grad students would qualify for residency after their first year as long as they did things like changing their driver's license to California, etc. The program to which I applied gave first-years additional aid to compensate for their year of non-resident status.

I don't know whether attending college in California will automatically qualify you for in-state tuition. But you would definitely qualify in subsequent years.

mollieb has it pretty much right. Unfortunately, your first year is almost certainly not going to count as in-state because you're not currently a resident by most accounts. But by the second year you should be fine.

yes, you will be classified as out of stater for the first year because you did really work in california for a year and paid california state tax yet. so you will be qualified as in-state in the second year.
