Wow, I wish I knew about this thread long ago! I finished my interview a few days ago and I think it went really well. I am curious to people out there-- did your interviewer tell you they would give a “strong recommendation” to the admissions committee? I am wondering if that is something everyone hears or if it is a good sign. My interviewer was SO qualified it was insane. Just to speak with her felt surreal. Congrats to everyone on finishing the last step in the application process!
@ashleymp thank you ?
@lialec thank you for your kindness! Did you have to interview last year? Did anyone get an interview but end up not getting accepted?
I neither filled my SAT scores in when I completed my UC Application nor requested the College Board to send my scores to Berkeley. However, the portal-application checklist shows that they received the official scores in January. Is that normal?
@stdnt4ever Did you apply to UC’s in high school? They may have your scores from back then. They do not consider sat scores so it won’t affect your application. I wish you could submit SAT scores but the UC app for transfers doesn’t even allow this option. So if you didn’t apply as a high school student then this is a weird error.
@transferszn I hope they would also consider my sat scores :). My scores were around 98-99%, if I am not mistaken. They did not help me to get in Berkeley last year, though.
I heard some people said that there would be more interviews next week, is that true?
I would take the opinions posted on this platform with a grain of salt. This website reflects either a very strong or very negative viewpoint due to the fact it’s all voluntary in nature. With that said, I’ve been told directly by an admissions official that the interviews are not a sign of admission. I was also informed that interviews are only offered to those who did no provide significant information for the university to make decision.
@WyattCross With all due respect, I couldn’t agree with you. I’d tell you this: ‘I wish I had an interview’. Because it is hard to believe such a fine institution would waste its resources to interview applicants that are dumb enough not provide significant information to the university to make decision.
In no way am I trying to argue with you. However, I want to make sure those that have applied, aren’t being let to believe information that is inaccurate. Nobody deserves to have their hopes lost on false/speculative information. To your argument, I said, “significant information to make a decision.” It is not possible for the University to send out interview requests to an applicant whose application hasn’t been reviewed yet. With all due respect, they are still in the process of reviewing applications. It’s up to an admissions officer, or admissions commitee to determine interviews. If they determine that more information on an applicant is needed, before making a final decision, then they may request an interview with that applicant. If admissions personnel were conducting the interviews and not an alumnist, then of course the University wouldn’t spend the resources interviewing “dumb” applicants. This information is coming from a family member who works as an admissions officer. My comments aren’t trying discredit those who got interviews by any means. To that end, the University will make a decisions that they see fit, regardless of what anybody says on this forum. I wish everybody best of luck, including those who got interviews.
I read earlier that every single one of the admitted students in last years class was interviewed first. Also, the lovely woman that interviewed me started her introduction by saying “you’ve obviously done something right because the admissions committee wants to learn more about you” (or something to that degree). Imho it is pretty obvious that interviews are pretty necessary to the admission process and if you don’t get invited to one in the next round it is possible either you weren’t a strong candidate or something messed up with your credits. Interviews definitely do NOT mean you will be admitted though. Something like 20% of applicants get offered interviews and only 4.8% of applicants last year got an offer of admission. Hope I’ve provided some insight!
I think agrument is a big waste of time. The truth that they do not interview all applicants so that many people got in without being interviewed. Easily check it through internet blogs, articles, etc.
That’s it.
Just enjoy life while waiting.
I agree. Many people get in without interviews. UCB interviews people just because they want to know more about some applicants. That’s it.
ok!
Good luck to everybody !
@emmamai No problem! I’m here to provide as much guidance as I can for you guys!
I did receive an interview last year. There also seemed to be students who received an interview and did not get admitted. All I can say is that interviews are not a clear indicator of anything definitive at this point, but those who received one can infer that they were not flat out rejected. If you look at last year’s thread, everyone stressed themselves out over conspiracy theories and “UCB portal tricks”, and it wasn’t worth our time! I wish you all the best! Again you guys can message or tag me if you have any questions!!
I went to the HAASEnvission at Haas and all the transferred admitted students got an interview.
@Iwishforhaas I’m actually a part of the committee for EnvisionHaas, and the EnvisionHaas volunteers are only representative of a percentage of all transfers! So everyone’s story is different, even if the volunteers for that day all got an interview ?
@lialec Can you get a letter at any time or is it just on April 19th? Wanna know if I should check it every day or just not think about it until the end of the month lol bc I never got an email reminder for UCSB so I’m curious if that’s how it is at all UCs.
Arguing about what the interview means is really a mute point, since no one knows, even if you “have an admissions officer relative” but I am going to make this comment. My interviewer didn’t take notes about me nor did they say the interview was being recorded. Explain to me how this interview could fill in information that was lacking in the application. The alumni had no knowledge of my academic/personal history. If you have gone through job interviews before you would know that many jobs have preliminary interviewers talk with a potential candidate give a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I believe this is all the interview stood for. Those who got an interview are trying to hype it up and those who didn’t get one are trying to frame it as a negative thing. No one knows so just wait.
