UC Berkeley Haas and UCLA Bizecon Transfer Chances?

Hey Everyone,

I am a student at a California Community College and here are my stats, chance me please!!

GPA: 3.862 (received 1 b in high school in a breadth class :/)
Pre-Reqs: Done
Language: Done (took two years in high school, BUT started at 2nd year level, so I did go to the required 3rd year level)
Other Courses: Calc 3, Differential Equations (my other B), Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting (taking it), and Calculus Based Physics (taking it)

EC's: Accounting Intern at a small accting firm for 5 months, Intern for President Pro-tem Senator Darrell Steinberg (started in October 2011), Math and English Tutor, President of Muslim Student Association, Inter Club Rep for American Marketing Association (only my first year), Vice President of Fitness Club (relates to me since i dropped a lot of weight), and 800 volunteer hours in high school

Essays: One haas student called my essay's simply amazing, other people definitely thought really favorably of them, if anyone wants to take a look, pm me!

Chance Away!!!!

any help is appreciated

Answered your PM.

But just wait it out. A reaffirmation from an unqualified poster (which we all are) is not going to assist the process. Plus, you only have a little over a month before decisions are released. Focus on your current semester or other activities and the time will go by quickly.

thanks for ur reply and input
i wont worry as much lol

but anyone is still welcome to offer input

ok, to be honest, i think you are gambling.
as i know, a lot of people who had 3.95 (1 B) GPA was reject by UCLA business econ last year.
and tone of people who had 4.0 was reject by HAAS last year.

you are applying the best and the most impacted major in two top schools.
and all i can say is: it is gambling

then again, i knew a kid with a 3.75 get into haas.
Haas cares a lot about requirements Where were those kids from, i.e. what schools and did they fullfill their requirements?

Extracurricular activity definitely helps when they are linked to the major. Your strong EC might possibly be your ticket in. You are the first applicant I have heard to intern at an accounting firm. I hope you get in!

actually you are right, HAAS cares about how students do their EC, but this is not my point
my point is you have no safety pick. have u ever considered about the worst scenario?
16%? are accepted by HAAS. only 50% of those people can declare business admin as their major in UCB.
avg GPA even with TAP students for BZECON in UCLA is about 3.95.
that is why i called it gambling.

anyway i wish you got in both :)

Hahah lol you make a strong argument, and I agree with it hahah. But my personal statements were super strong. It’s really about whether admissions likes you or not. Though the haas website did list that their average accepted gpa for transfer students only (most of ccc’s) was 3.81. My 3.862 comes with me taking tougher courses, whereas most busadmin majors at cc’s i know tend to stick with really easy ge courses. Lol whatever, we will wait and see.

My personal statements were pretty darn strong though, apparently lol. :)

yeah. i am not so confident about getting into HAAS. i am also applying for bzecon for ucla. so i picked econ for UCB as my safety pick
i guess i am just not as courage as you are  sometime i also regret my decision.
but i can see your courage.i think they maybe look for student like you. good luck:)

Hahah, do you want to exchange personal statements? I’m just curious. If you do not want to, that is perfectly fine!

Seeing the previous Haas threads, I would say your are a below average applicant. Therefore probably not good enough.

Good luck though. Would love to be proven wrong.

My boyfriend transferred to Haas last year so there are a few things I can tell you. First off, your GPA is fine, they rejected people with 4.0’s last year, but accepted some with 3.8’s. (My boyfriend’s best friend got rejected from EVERY school with a 3.8 except for haas, and that includes state schools) They REALLY take a holistic approach. Do you speak other languages? Have you lived in other countries/are you cultured? what kind of course load did you take? (how many units a quarter/semester) These are just some of the many aspects they look at. I know this because the admissions officer actually explained it to him after his acceptance. Truth of the matter is they really know who they are accepting and make an effort to well rounded students, not just high-gpas. From your post I would say that you are a strong candidate, and I wish you the best. I can’t give you much more, but just know that whatever happens, it will be for the best.

Hmm. Haas’s average transfer acceptance rate was 3.81 last year, and it might go up since they got rid of the pre-reqs. Most haas kids who go there who I have talked to and read my essays told me I’ll be fine and I have no need to worry.

I took 4 Units in Summer 09 (was a junior in high school), 3 units in Summer '10, 14 Fall '10, 15 Spring '11, 7 Summer '11, 15 Fall '11, and 16 right now.

idk, we’ll just have to wait and see

I am also 19 years of age if that counts for anything lmao?

You had me log in haha
I am a Haas applicant too. can you pm your essays to me? I’d like to chance your admissions.

i pmed you ck2882

salam/hello

You have rlly good ECs. Your GPA is not too bad either, considering you took more than required for pre-reqs.Can you pm your essays, i would like to chance you too.

Thanks dude, I just pmed you my stuff

PM me your PS. I applied to Haas this year too.

Caldreamin is totally right. I would also add communication skills, leadership, attention to detail, and a resume and essay that demostrates those qualities well. I saw some guys with amazing EC/job titles who had a close to blank resume and their essays didnt discuss their experience in detail. And you shouldn’t be too ambitious, broad, or vague when discussing your goals in the essays.
