So im a Junior in high school and i really want to get into UCB. I have around a 3.9 weighted and 3.4 unweighted ( i know its pretty low).... I am in the school marching band and concert band, in drumline and percussion class, I am treasurer for Key Club, going to try to go for Prez for Cervantes Spanish Honor Society, will try to get position in Percussion Srgt for band. I have had 7 classes (0-6) all high school. I play on school soccer team. Dance salsa, play piano, play ukelele, play drums obviously. I just got a scholarship as an exchange student to go to Sweden over the summer. I have 3 APs this year. Currently i have a 4.1 GPA, trying to get 4.3.... Have not taken SAT tests..... 3 SAT subject tests in may (Spanish, Math 2, Chem). i want to major in engineering maybe civil, biomedical, or chemical.... hoping to get 2000+ on SAT... Im also in debate whether what to do for senior classes. right now i have for next year, cp english, ap gov/econ, ap calc bc, percussion, band, CP or AP Physics.... Im not sure to do AP Physics since the teacher is sooo bad. Im not sure if i should take ACT... I work for promoting a Drivers Ed company, have gotten lots of money from it, but its not really a job im a Student Brand Ambassador. I was born in Mexico. IDK what else to say.
Thank you!

Please chance me or give advice. Thank you

Use the above to get an idea of the grade and test score stats of admitted students at the UC schools. Without your test scores, you may not have a good idea of where you stand.

You may also want to calculate your UC GPA based on the a-g coursework taken in 10th and 11th grade:

Alright thnx. Lets say i got SAT 2000s and ACT 30

In-state applicant, or out-of-state? Because that makes a pretty big difference.

Also, the general consensus in my region (I’m in-state), seems to be that Cal relies heavily on numbers, maybe more so than any other UC. So either way, you should probably work to get your SAT/ACT scores up as high as you can.

Juaneiro=I think CAL will be a stretch but definitely worth applying to. They really like the high numbers. They say they look at students holistically but it seems to me numbers are their number one priority. They have an extremely competitive engineering program so your math and science grades need to be top notch. They will only look at your 10-11 GPA so it needs to be strong. Make sure you do well on you math and science subject tests (need to be in the 700’s to be safe) and on your AP exams. You can polish up on the SAT/ACT this summer so I would put that on the back burner for now.

According to the UC stat finder, for the 2008-2009 freshmen class, those with a 3.80 to 3.99 UC GPA and average SAT scores of 600-699 in each part or average ACT 26-30 had a 9.8% admissions rate to Berkeley. With the same GPA but average SAT scores of 700-799 in each part or average ACT > 30, they had an admissions rate of 22.9%.

Acceptance rates get significantly better with UC GPA 4.00 and higher.

Yes i live in southern california.
Okay so it seems to me that I have to get 2100 SAT probably and 31 ACT … I am trying my best to get 4.3 GPA this semester, 4.1 wouldnt be too bad, but 4.3 will help a lot.

Also i will definately take AP physics with bad teacher… though i kind of wanted to have a more relaxed senior year but i have to make up for low GPA ahhh

UCs don’t look at senior year grades. it is basically over after this semester

AP Physics B or C?

For Berkeley:

AP Physics B may only give you generic credit units, which may help a bit in class registration priority, but gives no subject credit.

AP Physics C may get you out of Physics 7A (mechanics) for an engineering major if you get a high enough score ([5 on mechanics for the College of Engineering, total of 9 on both parts for the College of Chemistry](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/ap-credits/berkeley/index.html)).

Other UC AP credit information here.

We only have Physics B in school. I know about the UC GPA that they only calculate 10th and 11th… AP physics would be to enhance my knowledge… Or i could take regular physics and just get the main idea of it. Im basically between regular or AP physics. Also since i would have a free 6th period. Im not sure if it would be better to get a job OR take a class at a community college to broaden my knowledge

If you take an academic type course at community college, you may want to check [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see which courses are considered equivalent to courses at Berkeley (and other UC and CSU schools that you may be interested in).

The value of a job (if you get one) comes down to money/benefits/perks and experience; only you can decide if a given job offered to you makes sense for you.

Alright well im going to talk to my counselor tomorrow and see what she thinks about what im doing. I will probably go with AP physics and most likely a job.

Another question is it worth taking the ACT? im not sure if to take both SAT and ACT
