UC Berkeley International Applicants: Class of 2022

Hi, guys! I didn’t see a thread for international applicants for Cal so I thought I’d create one! Feel free to post your questions/stats here. :slight_smile:

@Nealthakker @mainer199 @BrKmNk

@happygal2017 Thank you so much. I’d like to restate my stats and would be glad if you all gave me an honset review whether I am competent enough to go to my dream university.

SAT - 1320 , major- business ( undeclared LSA initially), International student, Predicted % - 92.8/100 , class rank since past three years - 1/30 , Essays - I’d rate them 6.5 or 7/10, Pretty strong ECs- National level table tennis player, Won a lot of Model Un conferences and in various debating events, have my own startup that has received great response, played Indian classical instrument ( tabla) and finished two exams of it with full marks, cricket captain of Club team and we’ve been winning the cup since past three years, volunteering done to UN share the meal and various other programs.

Applied 11/31. Received a mail stating my application is under review. No update after that. Haven’t been requested LOR.

@Nealthakker Your ECs are very impressive and the major you’re going for is less competitive than the one that international students usually opt (i.e. STEM majors), which might work in your favor. However, your SAT score isn’t at par with the usual averages for international students, so it’s hard to predict your chances. Anyway, I know that Berkeley is holistic in the app review process (a friend who had an okay-SAT score but excellent ECs and essays got in last year) and your ECs definitely help your application stand out! So I think you have a good chance. All the best. :slight_smile:

Thank you for your honest opinion @happygal2017 . Appreciate it :slight_smile:

What are your stats and do you mind sharing the statistics of your friend who had got in last year ?

@Nealthakker I’m an Indian national who lives in another country. I have a 1500 (790M and 710R) on the SAT, 790s in two subject tests, decent ECs, 4.0 GPA, and 8-8.5/10 essays. My school doesn’t offer AP/IB courses because it follows the curriculum of the country I live in. I applied for EECS. I submitted my application on 11/30 and have not received a request for LORs. :-S

@Nealthakker As for my friend, she was admitted for psychology. She had a 2100 (on the old SAT), an okay-GPA (I can’t recall, but I know it wasn’t the best),
exemplar essays (she’s good at writing), and impressive ECs (athlete, won several national-level competitions in a wide array of sports). Honestly, she wasn’t expecting she’d get in with her GPA and SAT score, but she did.
So let’s all just be positive, haha :slight_smile:

@happygal2017 thanks :slight_smile:
