UC Berkeley LoR?

@johnlimster I don’t think you’re borderline at all. They just want more info from you. I have 3.8 UW, 4.57 W, and 35 ACT, and have received nothing. Do you think I should be worried?

@wormholes no I dont think you should be worried. In fact, I think it’s better if you don’t receive it at all.

@johnlimster Ok, thanks! I don’t know why you got it but I definitely don’t think it’s bad; your stats are much better than mine haha

It might be that you don’t have enough EC’s or maybe your personal statements may not be considered convincing. Your stats do look great.

@johnlimster - did you apply for one of the competitive majors like Engineering or Chemistry?

@Mom22DDs , no I did not. I applied to the College of Letters and Science, as an intended computer science major.

@johnlimster - My DD has 36 ACT, 3.85 UW GPA, 4.15 capped UC WGPA, 4.75 Uncapped UC WGPA, 790 Math-II, 790 Bio-M, 780 Chem, very good essays (though she might have been sorted by algorithm than by reader), and from stats of those requested for LORs, we’re guessing she ended in the Yes pile. It could be that they are evaluating you for Regents. I remember reading in the thread that they did ask potential Regents candidates for LORs, and these would be students firmly in the Yes pile.

To all - I don’t think just being sorted into Yes means guaranteed admission. I believe the apps in Yes pile are still read by two readers who make a Yes/No/Maybe classification, then LORs are sent to new Maybe’s, LORs read, and then the final admission decision is made. Also, what is not mentioned here is that the initial sorting is different based on college applied for. For e.g., EECS applicants seem to require stronger stats for Yes/Maybe than others.

Is regents for internationals too ? If not then why asked lor from internationals too ?

@USUG21 - LORs are requested for Maybe candidates and some others. International candidates that are sorted into Maybe would get asked for LORs. I don’t know about other reasons that LORs are asked for, but Regents seems to be one of them, going by other posts. My DD is an applicant this year, so my knowledge is limited to what is shared on this forum and by Berkeley.

When do they notify you if you are one of the 2000 that qualify for regents?

My daughter got invited to apply for Regents in February her year and they offered at least two interview sites in LA and Berkeley. She got in.
