UC Berkeley Major Transfer

I have a question regarding major transfers. Say I applied to the L&S Computer Science just to get in the school on the safe side. But what I really want is EECS in the College of Engineering. Is it possible to transfer from Computer Science in L&S to EECS in CoE? If so, how hard is it? I just want a computer science major but I know that their EECS is pretty well known too so I might want to transfer.

Bumping for an answer ;)

if EECS is competitive, it's most likely they wont allow you to switch majors, especially if you don't have the pre reqs done for it. If you browse UCB's website there's specifics about trying to switch departments once you're accepted, which is not usually allowed for competitive majors, including Business and some others(which i wouldn't be surprised if included engineering)

i gotta bump this old thread.
since i did the same thing, and decisions are coming out SOON, if i can’t transfer to EECS, there’s no point in me going to berkeley at all.

i know it’s hard, but is it at least possible, and if so, how soon can i switch?

EDIT: scratch that, i’ll ask on the Berkeley forum.

changing majors is difficult. Changing college is VERY difficult, especially because they have different admission criteria and degree requirements.

I’d like to bump this and ask again.

I am in L&S, but what if I decide I want to go into some type of engineering? How difficult is it to transfer into engineering and what do I have to do to maximize my chances?

Yeah Bro,

All my buddies transferred to Cal, do not go there if you intend to switch majors, they just don’t allow it, (NO ifs, ands, or buts)

Also just FYI: one of my x-gfs went to cal for Civil Engring, and she said the college of engineering really pressured her to finish in 4 years and to take 5 courses every semester.

also another FYI: every EECS person i know from Cal gets a job as a programmer for Cisco, etc., so save your self the stress from physics and take the cs route.

Wow a thread from a year ago haha. Thanks for all your answers! I do plan on sticking w/ CS. And CS majors at cal also end up as programmers as well.
