I was wondering what my chances are of getting accepted. I am applying this fall, and my second option would be materials science engineering. I think that UC Berkeley is out of my reach, and I'm aiming towards UC Davis, UC Santa Clara, UC Santa Baraba and UC Irvine, but I want to know if I should even apply to UC Berkeley. Thanks!
I am going to take the SAT 1 again this October, and the Bio SAT again in November. So hopefully, I will do better.

Berkeley seems like a big reach unless you raise your SAT scores. You seem like a match for the others. And did you mean UC Santa Cruz, not Santa Clara?

I’m from Indonesia. I’m not so sure if that’s a minority. My essays talked about how I grew up there and immigrating to the U.S was a huge change. I don’t want to waste 55 or 60 dollars for applying to UC Berkeley if I knew that I had no chance of getting in. I have an older brother (sophomore) who is at UC Berkeley right now for mechanical engineering. And I live in the bay area.

I agree with the others about your SAT score, but I also wanted to say that if you want to go there, you should apply. “Waste” $55 or $60? What if you get in? $60 isn’t such a big payment then, right? Even if you don’t get in, $60 won’t make much of a difference in your life in the long run anyway.

My point being that if you don’t pay the application fee, you’re not even giving yourself a chance to get in at all. Besides, the past year, a lot of people who folks have said shouldn’t have gotten in, got in (in my high school at least)! You never know what will happen with admissions, especially these past few years and probably years to come. And then what happens if you see someone less qualified than you get in, and you didn’t even apply? That regret will be hard to live with. I don’t mean to sound rude or anything, but it’s a tough feeling to live with. Remember, everyone has a chance of getting in if they apply. Good luck :D

Oy Vey! Another post from an Asian youngster worried about choosing a school among elite colleges. And no, most colleges will not categorize you as an URM [under represented minority].
