UC Berkeley next year, or UCLA this year?

Hey guys,
I'm going to Berkeley, but my friend did get his acceptance rescinded (as previously mentioned). His admission still stands with UCLA though.
Now he needs to decide if he will go to UCLA this fall, OR just apply again to Berkeley for next fall. This means, if he went to UCLA, he would graduate in 2012 (age 22), but if he goes to Berkeley, he will graduate in 2013 (age 23).

So we are just trying to see what people think:
Would you recommend holding off a year, (graduating a year later), just to go to Berkeley?

Personally, I would really hate to have to graduate a year later, but then again-- it is Berkeley. What do you guys think he should do?

And if anyone doesn't mind, can you state what age you will be when you get your BA (so probably 2 years from now) because he is self conscious or something about being older when graduating (even though he'll only be 23). I'll be 22-23 depending on if I finish on time.

He got in to UCLA- What if something happens over the course of the next year and he doesn’t get into UCLA OR Berkeley next fall? He has an opportunity here. Go with UCLA.

I’ll be 22 when I get my B.A.

UCLA unless he has some really great plans for the year.

UCLA, no brainer. I think it’s really foolish for him to wait an entire year when he could be using his time more wisely at UCLA.

I’ll be 20 when I get my B.A.

i think he would just travel for the year or something. maybe he would help me out with my non-profit since i will be too busy with school.

does that make any difference? would you guys skip a year to travel or something like that?

Don’t ever take the risks, you never know what’s going to happen next year. I would take UCLA over UCB anytime.

Personally, no. Traveling gets boring after awhile.

What if he doesn’t get into Cal come Fall 2010? Just go to UCLA!

what’s your friend’s major?

same as mine, political science (which is ranked much higher at Berk)

im a polysci major too and a BA is useless man, rankings dont mean jack go to grad school
