it's hard to make dicision.
My D is accepted by Berkeley with OOS $50.1K a year, no penney schoolership even we are not that rich almost half of our income.
In state university of Minnesota offer her a lot of schoolership, we only need pay 5k.
It's 45K difference a year. Does it worth 45K x 5 go to Berkeley?

No, because U of MN is a top-tier university. Not worth it to go anywhere else, public or private. She could use the $200,000+ to help pay for a house.

It would be crazy to spend that much for Berkeley if you’re not wealthy.

Minnesota 100%. Debt is debilitating.

Berkeley is a great school, no doubt. However, it is not worth the debt compared to the alternative at the University of Minnesota. Minnesota may not be ranked as highly but it is still a great university and a great deal financially for your as well.

MNDYD,

Congratulations…smart girl! If you have the $, Berkeley is heads and shoulders above U Minn in my opinion. If you don’t, there’s no decision to be made. U Minn is a wonderful school and I’m sure she will make the most of it. If we have learned anything as a country over the last year, it is that debt is evil and that alot of debt will crush you. Best of luck with your decision.

M

If she got in OUT OF STATE to Berkeley, then she is a fool for not applying to Ivy League Schools or a vast number of other top-tier schools that would have given her tons of financial aid.

With that said, go to Minnesota obviously.
