I got into both. which one should i go to? I relaly planned on going to ucsd. but now its all different.

i feel the same wayy =( but i heard the chemistry department at berkeley is better. akdjfaksldfa this is exciting =)=)

Depends on the major. The prestige of Berkeley might also help when applying to grad school. I’d go with Berkeley. Congratulations on your acceptances.

Depends. What are you looking for in a college experience?

I was just about to start a thread about this. I’m in the same boat as you. Not sure…although I think parents and family will be pushing for Berkeley). Actually I know. I guess we’ll see.

what is ur major?

how do u guys compare their chem programs?

I’m in for BioE: BioTech at UCSD and Biology at Cal.

same dilemma. i like the location of UCSD better and I’m afraid that cal might be TOO competitive. i’m also interested in marine biology, so UCSD would be much better considering Scripps is the best marine science grad school in the country and is part of UCSD. i’m planning on visiting both. oddly, i don’t know if i’d like the whole “east cost/historical” feel of cal.

Ah same here. )=
I think that in UCSD, it won’t be as competitive as Berkeley, and you’d have more of a chance to be in the top of the class, thus having teachers notice you more and whatnot.

But the prestige!
All this college think is confusing me.

I have the same dilemma too! : / I had my heart set on UCSD until I found out I got into Berkeley; and it definitely took me by surprise.

My parents without question want me to go to UCSD so I can stay in San Diego.

I bet that’s a first, haha. They say Berkeley is too far/expensive and treat it as improbable for me to attend. I’m the one who is convincing them that I want to go to Berkeley, but in all honesty I think it IS going to be quite competitive and I’m not sure if I could handle it yet. Plus, I didn’t get into Chem at Berkeley (which has the best program of all the UCs) but I got into Pharm Chem here at UCSD. At Berkeley I got my 2nd choice, Environmental Science. I’m so honored to have gotten in at all though (my SATs were very low!) but I’m pretty sure I’m going to wind up at to UCSD and I’m perfectly okay with that. : )

Interesting dilemma, indeed. C’est la vie.

For BioEng
I say UCSD

What about biology (not pre-med)?

UCSD. we had alumni come back and talk about colleges and stuff.
if you’re considering med school, it doesn’t really matter which college you go to, go somewhere you’d like to go. med school only depends on the classes you take.

but for UCSD, since there’s six colleges each with different GE’s. depending on the college you get into, some colleges have GE’s more geared towards a certain field. like Warren’s GE’s are more geared to science, etc.

majoring in poli sci

id pick cal.

im in the same boat and im 99% sure thats what im doing (minus thinking about the private colleges)

I got accepted to Cal and I am also planning to major in political science. From what I have heard, Cal has one of the best political science departments.

That’s what makes it a tough decision – UCSD’s political science department is stellar also and is right up there with Cal’s.

hmm Cal IS the #1 public university, you should be honored to get excepted.

on the other hand i didnt really like my visit there…
it was too urban for me…the city didnt hold that homey feel to me. there are pretty hardcore studiers. lots of slums around. the cities did have interesting stores and there are ppl walkin around… my friend’s friends said they got mugged when walking around at 9 oclock in the city… and lately there have been cases of sexual assault…

i grew up in the bay and i guess i personally prefer going to a beachy town instead of the urbany feel…

Cal is good for poltical sci—> hold protest in student center a lot
but UCSD’s program is also pretty high up there.

I say VISIT the place… it really makes a difference. sophmore year i was all for CAL then after that visit to the college i just couldnt imagine myself living there for 4 years.
